Green synthesis of DyBa2Fe3O7.988/DyFeO3 nanocomposites using almond extract with dual eco-friendly applications: Photocatalytic and antibacterial activities

Makarim A. Mahdi et al.

Summary: In this study, photocatalytical and antibacterial activities of DyBa2Fe3O7.988/DyFeO3 (Dy-Ba-Fe-O) nanocomposites were investigated as eco-friendly applications. The synthesis method chosen was ultrasound technique to ensure low energy consumption and achieve a pure product with good crystallinity. Natural almond core extract was used as a green reagent. The nanocomposite exhibited a band gap of 2.6 eV, enabling visible-light photocatalysis. Significant degradation of Rhodamin-B dye and strong antibacterial activity against Gram-negative pathogens were observed. The properties of the nanocomposite were characterized by various analyses.

Full-length transcriptome-referenced analysis reveals crucial roles of hormone and wounding during induction of aerial bulbils in lily

Jingrui Li et al.

Summary: Aerial bulbils in Lilium are important vegetative reproductive organs. This study found that decapitation and IAA application can induce the growth of aerial bulbils in the lily cultivar 'Sorbonne'. Transcriptome sequencing revealed the crucial roles of hormone signaling, sugar metabolism, and wound-induced genes in bulbil outgrowth. Co-expression modules and candidate transcription factors related to hormone and wound regulation were identified. This research provides valuable insights into the regulation of bulbil outgrowth and molecular breeding of lilies.

The nutrient preferences of rice and wheat influence fluoranthene uptake

Yuanzhou Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different forms of nitrogen treatment on the uptake of fluoranthene by rice and wheat, and found that ammonium-treated rice and nitrate-treated wheat accumulated the most fluoranthene under an equivalent nitrogen supply. The study also found that fluoranthene accumulation was correlated with plant growth and antioxidant enzyme activities.

Effects of Vapor Pressure Deficit and Potassium Supply on Root Morphology, Potassium Uptake, and Biomass Allocation of Tomato Seedlings

Jiayu Zhang et al.

Summary: Low VPD promotes potassium uptake by facilitating root system development, increasing nutrient absorption, and biomass accumulation. The higher biomass also enhances potassium accumulation, promoting photosynthesis. Low VPD facilitates root system development and enhances potassium uptake.

Soil PAHs contamination effect on the cellular and subcellular organelle changes ofPhragmites australisCav.

Svetlana Sushkova et al.

Summary: The study found that in areas near Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, southern Russia, where industrial sewage and sludge historically contaminated the environment, the concentration of n-ary sumation (16) priority PAHs in soils, roots, and above-ground parts of reed plants was significantly higher than background levels. The research also showed that the adaptation of Phragmites australisCav. to stressors led to changes in ultrastructure in response to PAH pollution, possibly as a protective measure against oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species. Such cellular and subcellular changes provide innovative insights into the effects of persistent and toxic contaminants on plants.

Mitigation of arsenate toxicity by indole-3-acetic acid in brinjal roots: Plausible association with endogenous hydrogen peroxide

Saud Alamri et al.

Summary: IAA application significantly reduced arsenic accumulation and oxidative stress markers in eggplant seedlings, protecting roots from cell death. Endogenous H2O2 may have played a crucial role as a downstream signal in the IAA-mediated mitigation of arsenate toxicity in eggplant roots.

Effects of 3,4-Benzopyrene on the adventitious root differentiation of in vitro culture seedlings of Triarrherca sacchariflora

Ran Sun et al.

Summary: The study suggests that 3,4-benzopyrene may act as an auxin-like substance, positively influencing adventitious root differentiation in Triarrherca sacchariflora in vitro culture seedlings. While lower concentrations had a significant positive effect, higher dosages showed inhibitory effects. This research is the first to investigate the effects of 3,4-benzopyrene on the plant endogenous signal substances involved in regulating plant growth and development, shedding light on its role in phytoremediation of PAHs.
