Protective role of curcumin on aflatoxin B1-induced TLR4/RIPK pathway mediated-necroptosis and inflammation in chicken liver

Sihong Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the mitigative effects of curcumin on AFB1-induced necroptosis and inflammation in chicken liver. The results showed that AFB1 exposure led to necrotic characteristics and inflammation in chicken livers, increased oxidative stress and decreased antioxidant activity in liver tissue. Curcumin regulated the TLR4/RIPK signaling pathway, reduced oxidative stress biomarkers and inflammatory cytokines levels, and attenuated necroptosis and inflammation in chicken liver tissue.

Dietary phillygenin supplementation ameliorates aflatoxin B1-induced oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis in chicken liver

Jing Guo et al.

Summary: This research aimed to investigate the preventive effects of Phillygenin (PHI) on the toxicity of Aflatoxin B-1 (AFB(1)) in the liver of chickens. Results revealed that dietary PHI ameliorated liver function indicators, reduced oxidative damage and inflammatory response, decreased apoptosis, and increased antioxidant enzyme contents by inhibiting NF-kappa B and activating the Nrf2 signaling pathway. This study provides new insight into the therapeutic uses of PHI.

Antioxidant and Antigenotoxic Actions of Gum Arabic on the Intestinal Mucosa, Liver and Bone Marrow of Swiss Mice Submitted to Colorectal Carcinogenesis

Andre Luis Nunes Avelino et al.

Summary: Gum arabic shows potential in inhibiting colorectal carcinogenesis by reducing the formation of aberrant crypts and decreasing genotoxicity and oxidative stress in the colon, liver, and systemic levels. These results suggest a promising role for gum arabic as an antioxidant in the development of treatments for colorectal cancer.

Ajay Kumar et al.

Summary: The study investigates the potential of BDCe fraction in inhibiting the proliferation of osteosarcoma cells and inducing apoptosis. The BDCe fraction shows chemopreventive properties by inhibiting the cell cycle and inducing apoptosis through the Akt/NF-kappa B/p53 pathways.

Apigeninidin-rich Sorghum bicolor (L. Moench) extracts suppress A549 cells proliferation and ameliorate toxicity of aflatoxin B1-mediated liver and kidney derangement in rats

Solomon E. Owumi et al.

Summary: This study found that extracts from Sorghum bicolor plant have potential cytotoxic effects on cancer cells and can ameliorate hepatorenal injuries caused by aflatoxin. The extracts also showed inhibitory effects on oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis, and protected the liver and kidney tissues. These findings suggest the potential of these extracts for cancer therapy and prevention of aflatoxin-related health issues.

Fucoidan supplementation modulates hepato-renal oxidative stress and DNA damage induced by aflatoxin B1 intoxication in rats

Mohamed M. Abdel-Daim et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the ameliorative effect of fucoidan on AFB(1)-induced hepatorenal toxicity in rats. The results suggest that fucoidan alleviates cell damage and oxidative stress induced by AFB(1), possibly due to its antioxidant and anti-apoptotic activities.

Toxicogenicity and mechanistic pathways of aflatoxin B1 induced renal injury

Nomali Zanele Dlamini et al.

Summary: The study investigated the toxic effects of AFB(1) on human renal cells, revealing that oxidative stress induced by AFB(1) leads to cell death through the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis. While an increase in free radicals was observed, upregulation of antioxidant systems prevented membrane damage and necrosis, indicating activation of defense mechanisms. Contrary to expectations, AFB(1) treatment did not result in phosphatidylserine externalization, a key hallmark of apoptosis.
