The spatiotemporal change of cropland and its impact on vegetation dynamics in the farming-pastoral ecotone of northern China

Deji Wuyun et al.

Summary: This study focused on the farming-pastoral ecotone in northern China, exploring a classification approach for complex cropland and retired cropland using multi-temporal Landsat TM and OLI images. The results showed that cropland area increased sharply from 1990-2000, then decreased significantly from 2011-2019, with retired cropland mostly originating from previous cropland. The study also revealed a continuous increase in vegetation coverage related to the decline of cropland and the increase of retired cropland.

Application of the MaxEnt model in improving the accuracy of ecological red line identification: A case study of Zhanjiang, China

Zhijian Li et al.

Summary: China's Ecological protection Red Lines (ERLs) policy has been effective in protecting ecological resources, restoring ecosystems, and promoting regional ecological civilization. However, current methods for identifying high-value ecological conservation land are not precise enough, which hinders the implementation of ERL policy. This study introduces the Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt) model into the identification work of ERLs and demonstrates its effectiveness in improving the accuracy of identifying high-value ecological land. The MaxEnt model helps identify overlooked areas with conservation value, providing a reasonable basis for ERL identification and promoting the implementation of ERL policy.

Identifying the spatiotemporal dynamics of forest ecotourism values with remotely sensed images and social media data: A perspective of public preferences

Shixue You et al.

Summary: Ecotourism, as a cultural ecosystem service, is crucial for rural economic growth. However, there is a lack of scientific frameworks for assessing forest ecotourism values at the regional scale. This study proposes a framework to evaluate forest ecotourism values and explores the influence of public preferences. The results reveal significant spatiotemporal changes in forest ecotourism values, mainly influenced by accessibility variables.

Quantitative Analysis of Land Subsidence and Its Effect on Vegetation in Xishan Coalfield of Shanxi Province

Ding Ma et al.

Summary: It is important to monitor and protect the original ecological environment in coal mining areas by identifying ground subsidence and quantifying its impact on surface vegetation. In this study, surface deformation and vegetation information were analyzed using satellite images. The results showed that the subsidence center had lower vegetation coverage, higher fluctuation, and greater degradation compared to non-subsidence areas.

Shiliang Yang et al.

Summary: Using geographic distribution information and the Maximum Entropy model, this study determined the suitability of different crops in the Songhua River Basin (SRB) and optimized the layout of crop planting structure. The results showed that human activities play a significant role in determining crop suitability, rather than environmental factors. These findings provide a scientific basis for optimizing crop layout and improving food production.

Rural Morphology and Forces Driving Change in Rapidly Urbanizing Areas: A Case Study in Fujian, China

Lishan Xiao et al.

Summary: The study found an increase in the fractal dimension value of rural morphology in Fujian Province over the past decade, indicating spatial heterogeneity. Key factors influencing rural morphology include natural conditions, rurality, and economic development, with historic administration playing a minor role. The structural equation model suggests that rural planning should adopt a flexible and adaptive policy based on rural morphological characteristics rather than mimic urban planning strategies.
