The near-optimal feasible space of a renewable power system model

Fabian Neumann et al.

Summary: Models for long-term investment planning in the power system typically return a single optimal solution based on cost assumptions, but there are often many near-optimal alternatives. Understanding common features across cost-effective alternatives can enhance policy advice and acknowledge uncertainties in the model structure.

Sustainability assessment of existing onshore wind plants in the context of triple bottom line: a best-worst method (BWM) based MCDM framework

Fatih Ecer

Summary: This paper focuses on performance assessment of existing onshore wind plants and proposes a structural methodology for sustainability evaluation. The research finds that the environmental dimension is the most significant, followed by economic and social dimensions. Distance to protected areas is the most important factor in terms of sustainability performance, with wind plants in the north side of Izmir showing higher sustainability performance.

Managing spatial sustainability trade-offs: The case of wind power

Paul Lehmann et al.

Summary: The study shows that stakeholders have different opinions on the ranking of sustainability criteria in the spatial allocation of wind power generation capacity, not only in terms of weights, but also in terms of definition and measurement. Concerns about interregional equity are important in allocating generation capacity, but stakeholders have different concepts and approaches towards it.

Building Pareto Frontiers for Ecosystem Services Tradeoff Analysis in Forest Management Planning Integer Programs

Susete Marques et al.

Summary: This research introduces an innovative approach using integer programming to generate Pareto frontiers in order to address multiple objectives, locational specificity requirements, and product even-flow constraints in forest management planning. The method may enhance tradeoff analysis between ecosystem services in large-scale problems and help forest managers effectively balance demand for forest products in participatory management planning processes.
