Origin and Evolution of Ultramafic Rocks along the Sagaing Fault, Myanmar

Tomoaki Morishita et al.

Summary: This article focuses on the Sagaing fault in Myanmar and the associated serpentinite bodies. The analysis shows that these serpentinites are mainly composed of harzburgite with minor amounts of dunite, and after the activity of the Sagaing fault, locally formed serpentinite schist and brecciated rock. Further research is needed to understand the relationship between the activity of the Sagaing fault and the distribution of serpentinized peridotites.

Evolution of Neoproterozoic Shillong Basin, Meghalaya, NE India: implications of supercontinent break-up and amalgamation

Susobhan Neogi et al.

Summary: The study reveals the complete litho-structural evolution of the Shillong Basin in Northeast India during the Neoproterozoic Era, including the formation of the lower Tarso, middle Ingsaw, and upper Umlapher formations. The formation of the basin is related to the fragmentation of Rodinia and continent dispersion, leading to the collision of India with Australia and the intrusion of Cambrian granitoids during the Pan-African Orogeny, contributing to the assembly of Gondwana.

Multiple Tethyan ocean basins and orogenic belts in Asia

Ian Metcalfe

Summary: The evolution of Tethyan ocean basins in Asia spans over 500 million years, involving opening and closure of oceans, collision of continental blocks, and formation of major orogenic belts. This complex geological history has shaped Asia's landscape and mineral resource distribution significantly.

Prototethyan Accretionary Orogenesis Along the East Gondwana Periphery: New Insights From the Early Paleozoic Igneous and Sedimentary Rocks in the Sibumasu

Yuejun Wang et al.

Summary: New geochronological and geochemical data reveal a new succession of igneous and sedimentary rocks within the Sibumasu region extending from SW Yunnan to Southeast Asia, with early Paleozoic granites formed in a subduction-related setting. Detrital zircon U-Pb ages from different units in SW Yunnan and SE Asia indicate lower Paleozoic sequences, with detritus likely derived from the India-Antarctica region of East Gondwana. The late Cambrian-Silurian units were likely formed in response to the consumption of the Prototethyan Ocean in SW Yunnan and SE Asia, suggesting Sibumasu's role as part of an accretionary orogen along the northern margin of East Gondwana.

Middle Jurassic arc reversal, Victoria-Katha Block and Sibumasu Terrane collision, jadeite formation and Western Tin Belt generation, Myanmar

Andrew Mitchell et al.

Summary: Myanmar's geological structure is complex, shaped by multiple magmatic events and crustal movements, leading to the current landscape and distribution of mineral deposits. The Sagaing Fault in eastern Myanmar inherited from the Neo-Tethys Ocean tectonic belt, while differences between the Shan Scarp and Mogok are the result of early thrusting events, and the jadeite deposits in western Myanmar are related to Indian Ocean subduction.

Coupled detrital zircon U?Pb and Hf analysis of the Sibumasu Terrane: From Gondwana to northwest Thailand

Summary: This study focuses on the U-Pb and Lu-Hf isotopic information of detrital zircons from Paleozoic and Mesozoic sedimentary rocks obtained from the Sibumasu Terrane in northwest Thailand. The results reveal a temporal change in detrital ages from older Paleozoic sequences to latest Permian-Triassic units associated with Indosinian zircon sources.

Gondwana's interlinked peripheral orogens

Peter A. Cawood et al.

Summary: After its assembly in the Ediacaran-Early Cambrian, Gondwana was surrounded by a system of peripheral orogens, including Terra Australis, Avalonian-Cadomian, and North Indo-Australie, which showed temporal correlations in their lithotectonic records. The development of these orogens was influenced by the breakup of Rodinia in the early Neoproterozoic, with variations reflecting the different relationships of their basement continental blocks to the supercontinent. The different orogens recorded the development of passive continental margins or convergent plate margins prior to Gondwana's assembly.

The West Burma Terrane, a review of recent paleo-latitude data, its geological implications and constraints

C. K. Morley et al.

Summary: Recent high-quality paleomagnetic data from the West Burma Terrane suggest rapid northward movement of the terrane, indicating significant implications for the pre-collision configuration of Greater India and plate restorations in the region. However, considerable incompatibilities between geological data and paleomagnetic model call for further investigation to ensure data accuracy and address deficiencies in our geological understanding.
