Potential Alzheimer's disease therapeutic nano-platform: Discovery of amyloid-beta plaque disaggregating agent and brain-targeted delivery system using porous silicon nanoparticles

Jaehoon Kim et al.

Summary: Recent research has shown that using porous silicon nanoparticles as a therapeutic platform can overcome Alzheimer's disease and deliver drugs to the brain. The study found that 6-amino-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid (ANA) is an effective compound that can disaggregate amyloid plaques. By loading ANA into porous silicon nanoparticles and targeting delivery, memory impairment in an Alzheimer's disease mouse model can be improved.

A sensitive and selective fluorescent probe for acetylcholinesterase: Synthesis, performance, mechanism and application

Meng Yao et al.

Summary: In this study, a small-molecule fluorescent probe BDFA was designed and synthesized for qualitative and quantitative detection of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity. BDFA emits enhanced fluorescence under the catalysis of AChE. The probe showed sensitive, selective, rapid, and stable "turn-on" fluorescence response to AChE without interference from other factors. The linear relationship between the fluorescence intensity of BDFA and AChE concentration allows for the rapid diagnosis of AChE activity in blood samples, providing an efficient tool for diagnosing organophosphorus and carbamate pesticide poisoning.
