Fluorescence Sensing of Anions by Silanediols Bearing Substituted Naphthyl Groups

Shiori Abe et al.

Summary: Silanediols with naphthyl moieties substituted at 5-position with cyano and N,N-dimethylamino groups have been synthesized and characterized. The substituents on the naphthyl moieties have a strong influence on their reactivity, photophysical properties, and anion sensing abilities. Silanediols bearing 1-(5-N,N-dimethylaminonaphthyl) groups exhibit large Stokes shifts and high quantum yields. They also show favorable ratiometric fluorescence responses to biologically important anions, AcO- and H2PO4-, with high association constants.

Modulation of the photophysical properties of multi-BODIPY-siloxane conjugates by varying the number of fluorophores

Alexey A. Pakhomov et al.

Summary: A series of multifluorophore compounds were synthesized by linking different numbers of BODIPY residues, which exhibited characteristic photophysical effects. Increasing the number of fluorophores led to a significant increase in molar extinction coefficient and broadening of fluorescence emission bands, but a decrease in fluorescence quantum yield due to aggregation-caused quenching.

Synthesis and Characterization of Cyclotri- and Tetrasiloxanes with Pyrenyl Groups

Shin-ichi Kondo et al.

Summary: Cyclosiloxanes directly bearing polyaromatic groups on silicon atoms have been investigated. It was found that in cyclotrisiloxane, the pyrenyl groups are oriented outward without pi-pi stacking between adjacent pyrenyl groups, while in cyclotetrasiloxane, the adjacent pyrenyl groups are oriented in the same direction and pi-pi stacked with each other. Moreover, the fluorescence spectra of cyclotrisiloxane showed both monomer and excimer emissions, while those of cyclotetrasiloxane only showed excimer emission.

Solvent-controlled intramolecular excimer emission from organosilicon derivatives of naphthalene

A. S. Belova et al.

Summary: New mono-, bis- and tetra-fluorophoric organosilicon naphthalene derivatives capable of forming intramolecular excimers have been synthesized and characterized. These compounds exhibit strong excimer-like emission in certain solvent mixtures, with fluorescence intensity increasing with water content and decreasing with temperature. Different intramolecular excimers in an ensemble of four naphthalene molecules linked to a cyclotetrasiloxane ring have been modeled using DFT-based calculations.
