The impact of Fe2O3 on the dispersion parameters and gamma/fast neutron shielding characteristics of lithium borosilicate glasses

Z. A. Alrowaili et al.

Summary: This study investigates the optical and radiation characteristics of 50.4B(2)O(3) - 30SiO(2) - (19.6 x) Li2O - x Fe2O3 glasses, where x = (0 <= x <= 2 mol%). The structural characteristics of the glasses were determined using XRD. The main objective was to fabricate high density samples by replacing Li2O with Fe2O3 and study their optical and radiation properties. The results showed that the fabricated glasses had higher density and refractive index. As the concentration of Fe2O3 increased, the energy bandgap decreased. The radiation shielding properties were evaluated using Phy-X/PSD, and it was found that G 5 was the best candidate for shielding against gamma radiation.

A Study of Thermal, and Optical Properties of 22SiO2-23Bi2O3-37B2O3-13TiO2-(5-x) LiF- x BaO Glasses

Atif Mossad Ali et al.

Summary: Glass samples prepared using melt-quenching techniques were found to exhibit amorphous status, with thermal parameters increasing as the BaO content rises, including density and refractive index. The bandgap energies decreased for direct and indirect transitions while Urbach energy increased with higher BaO content, attributed to an increment in the bond length of Ba-O. These improvements in optical and thermal characteristics suggest that the fabricated glasses are suitable for various applications.

FT-IR and Gamma Shielding Characteristics of 22SiO2-23Bi2O3-37B2O3-13TiO2-(5-x) LiF- x BaO Glasses

Ateyyah M. Al-Baradi et al.

Summary: The glass system was fabricated using traditional procedures and characterized using FT-IR, XRD, and radiation techniques. XRD was used to assess the amorphous state, showing a decrease in molar volume with increasing glass density. Incorporation of BaO did not affect the borosilicate network, but resulted in a conversion from BO3 to BO4 as indicated by FTIR. The addition of BaO improved the gamma shielding characteristics of the glass, making it suitable for radiation shielding applications.
