Isolated low toe-brachial index is associated with increased mortality and morbidity: a retrospective cohort study

Chris Adusei Manu et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the prognostic impact of perfusion assessments (ABI and TBI) on survival of diabetic foot ulcer patients, categorizing them into three levels of limb ischaemia. Results showed that low TBI was associated with decreased patient survival, requiring specialized care pathways and revascularization for ulcer healing similar to non-ischaemic patients.

Predictive Factors for Limb Salvage and Foot Ulcer Recurrence in Patients with Chronic Limb-Threatening Ischemia After Multidisciplinary Team Treatment: A 6-Year Japanese Single-Center Study

Miki Fujii et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively investigated 84 patients with CLTI and found that postrevascularization skin perfusion pressure was significantly associated with wound healing, while diabetes mellitus and heart disease were significantly associated with wound recurrence. Treatment within a single-center intensive multidisciplinary team resulted in good patient outcomes.

The Association between Foot and Ulcer Microcirculation Measured with Laser Speckle Contrast Imaging and Healing of Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Onno A. Mennes et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between microcirculation and healing of diabetic foot ulcers, measured using LSCI and non-invasive blood pressure measurements. The results showed no significant association between healing and either type of measurement, indicating limited predictive ability of current blood pressure measurements or LSCI for diabetic foot ulcer healing.

Healing below the ankle is possible in patients with diabetes mellitus and a forefoot gangrene

Targ Elgzyri et al.

Summary: Forefoot gangrene in patients with diabetes is a severe form of foot ulcers with risk of major amputation. However, this study found that a considerable proportion of patients can heal without major amputation. In a cohort of 476 patients, 48% achieved healing after minor amputation.
