Summary: The study aimed to investigate the position of NCM in the structure of DCM, its clinical features, and its influence on prognosis compared with other forms of DCM syndrome. The results showed that NCM is an independent form of DCM syndrome, characterized by a higher frequency of pathogenic mutations, arrhythmic events, worse response to cardiotropic therapy, and a higher frequency of intracardiac thrombosis.

Summary: In patients with left ventricular noncompaction cardiomyopathy, trabeculation was similar at apical and midventricular levels, but not significantly involved at the basal level. There was no significant correlation between LV dysfunction and trabeculation rate or the number of trabeculated segments, limiting the usefulness of LV function changes in distinguishing normal and pathological trabeculation.

The value of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and programmed ventricular stimulation in patients with ventricular noncompaction and ventricular arrhythmias

Summary: Left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC) is associated with ventricular arrhythmias (VA) such as premature ventricular complexes and ventricular tachycardia (VT). The study aimed to determine the benefit of delayed enhancement cardiac magnetic resonance (DE-CMR) and programmed ventricular stimulation (PVS) for risk stratification in patients with LVNC and VA, as well as to identify VA target sites. The presence of CMR-defined scar in LVNC patients was associated with inducible VT and worse outcomes, while inducibility for VT was linked to VT recurrence. Furthermore, CMR was found to be helpful in localizing arrhythmogenic substrate in LVNC for procedural planning.

Summary: A patient with overlapping phenotypes of LVNC and HCM, presenting with AF, VT, and HF, was found to have a novel heterozygous truncated mutation in the DSC2 gene, resulting in reduced expression of functional desmocollin2 protein. The mutation may contribute to the overlap of LVNC and HCM, complicating AF, VT, and HF.
