Coherent antiferromagnetic spintronics

Jiahao Han et al.

Summary: Antiferromagnets have attracted extensive interest in spintronics and various applications have been developed based on the coherent effects of antiferromagnet dynamics. This Review categorizes and analyzes the critical effects, including spin pumping, spin transmission, electrically induced spin rotation and ultrafast spin-orbit effects, that harness the coherence of antiferromagnets for spintronic applications. Future opportunities in research and applications in coherent antiferromagnetic spintronics are also discussed.

Effects of Adsorbate Diffusion and Edges in a Transition from Particle to Dendritic Morphology during Silver Electrodeposition

Sohere Dokhan et al.

Summary: This study observes the transition from the initial growth of microsized particles to the growth of dendrites with pine tree shape (nanotrees) during silver electrodeposition on Au nanoparticle-covered highly oriented pyrolitic graphite. The results are explained by the interplay of diffusive cation flux in the electrolyte and relaxation of adsorbed atoms on quenched crystal surfaces. The simulations provide insights into the nanotree growth at different conditions and suggest the interpretation of diffusion lengths on the growing surfaces.

Tuning the magnetic properties of Fe thin films with RF-sputtered amorphous carbon

Shoug Alghamdi et al.

Summary: This paper explores the effects of RF-sputtered amorphous carbon overlayers on the magnetic properties of iron thin films. The results show that hybridisation and intermixing between the two materials lead to magnetic softening in the as-deposited samples. However, after annealing, inter-diffusion and carbon graphitization increase the coercivity and enhance the magnetic pinning effect.

Electrochemical Study of the Electrodeposition of a Dense Nanocrystalline Fe Film from Fe(II) Ions Dissolved in an Ionic Liquid

Jian-Ru Li et al.

Summary: The electrodeposition behavior of Fe was studied in TMPAC-EG EILs containing FeCl2, and the results showed that the transfer coefficients were significantly lower than conventional values and the deposition of Fe followed a progressive nucleation and growth mode, which was unaffected by temperature. The deposition temperature also played a crucial role in controlling the surface morphology and structure of the resultant Fe coatings.

Realization of efficient tuning of the Fermi level in iron-based ferrimagnetic alloys

N. Yamashita et al.

Summary: The Stoner criterion allows only cobalt, nickel, and iron to possess room-temperature ferromagnetism. However, the large work function of these elements hinders the injection of electron spins into nonmetallic materials, limiting their application in spin devices. Therefore, the development of a novel material with both room-temperature ferromagnetism and high Fermi energy is highly desired. The iron-gadolinium (FeGd) alloy shows promise in overcoming this obstacle.

An electrodeposition model with surface relaxation predicts temperature and current effects in compact and dendritic film morphologies

Ismael S. S. Carrasco et al.

Summary: This study investigates a thin-film electrodeposition model that considers the relaxation of deposited material by adatom diffusion and cation flux in the electrolyte. The results suggest thermally activated forms for the model parameters and provide insights into the growth of self-organized structures with leaf shapes. The model predicts how the sizes of low-energy surface configurations change with temperature and applied current.

Temperature Effects in the Initial Stages of Heteroepitaxial Film Growth

Tung B. T. To et al.

Summary: In this study, kinetic Monte Carlo simulations of a model of thin film heteroepitaxy were conducted to investigate the effects of the deposition temperature during the initial growth stages. The results showed that the roughness of the film increased with deposition temperature, likely due to the formation of wider and taller islands. Interestingly, in thicker films, some parameter sets showed a decrease in roughness with temperature.

Room-temperature intrinsic and extrinsic damping in polycrystalline Fe thin films

Shuang Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates room-temperature magnetic relaxation in polycrystalline Fe films. It is found that the intrinsic Gilbert damping parameter remains unchanged regardless of the microstructural properties of the Fe films, contrary to intuition. This suggests that the room-temperature intrinsic Gilbert damping in Fe films is primarily determined by the bcc crystal structure within the nanoscale grains, with limited effects from grain boundaries and film roughness. In addition, the in-plane FMR linewidths of the Fe films exhibit nonlinear frequency dependencies, indicating the presence of strong extrinsic damping.

Roughness and correlations in the transition from island to film growth: Simulations and application to CdTe deposition

Tung B. T. To et al.

Summary: Using kinetic Monte Carlo simulations, the relationship between morphological properties and microscopic dynamics during island growth, coalescence, and initial formation of continuous heteroepitaxial films is studied. The average island width is controlled by adatom mobility on the substrate, and subsequent evolution strongly depends on the Ehrlich-Schwoebel energy barrier E-ES of the deposited material.
