Enhanced Direct Crystallization Resolution of Racemates Mediated in Chiral Ionic Liquid Cosolvent Mixtures: Experimental, Statistical, and QM Simulation Studies

Xiaolan Qin et al.

Summary: In this study, four chiral ionic liquids were successfully synthesized and characterized. The molar fraction solubilities of DL- and D- alanine were investigated in binary cosolvent mixtures of the ionic liquids and water. A cosolvency phenomenon was observed and selective nucleation inhibition of enantiomeric crystals was achieved. Improved yield and yield ratio of L-Alanine products were obtained through direct antisolvent crystallization resolution, and the higher chiral recognition ability of certain ionic liquids was attributed to stronger weak interactions. The stability and recyclability of the ionic liquids made the enhanced resolution feasible for recycling.

Effect of Additives on Preferential Crystallization for the Chiral Resolution of Citrulline: Experimental, Statistical, and Molecular Dynamics Simulation Studies

Leilei Zhang et al.

Summary: This article investigated the crystalline properties and nucleation process of citrulline in aqueous solutions with (R)-1,3-butanediol. Through molecular analysis and simulation, the chirality enrichment of racemic crystals was explored. It was found that additives played a significant role in determining the appearance probability of racemic and enantiomeric crystals.

Unveiling the Role of Additives in Modifying Crystallization Behaviors of 4-(Hydroxymethyl) Benzoic Acid

Xiaowei Cheng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence mechanism of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) on the crystal morphology of 4-(hydroxymethyl) benzoic acid (p-HMBA) through experiments and molecular simulations. The results showed that PVP hindered the nucleation and growth of p-HMBA crystals, with a stronger inhibition effect on axial growth. Molecular simulations revealed that the hydrogen-bonding interaction between PVP and p-HMBA molecules inhibited the nucleation rate of the p-HMBA crystals.

Uncovering the role of impurity sugars on the crystallization of D-tagatose crystal: Experiments and molecular dynamics simulations

Dongbo Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of impurity sugars (D-maltose, D-fructose, D-glucose) on the nucleation and growth of D-TAG crystals. The impurity sugars inhibit the primary nucleation but promote the secondary nucleation of D-TAG. Molecular dynamics simulations are used to evaluate the interaction energy and diffusion ability between crystal surfaces and impurity sugars.

Direct Crystallization Resolution of Racemates Enhanced by Chiral Nanorods: Experimental, Statistical, and Quantum Mechanics/ Molecular Dynamics Simulation Studies

Jiaojiao Cao et al.

Summary: By synthesizing and utilizing chiral nanorods, the resolution of racemic aspartic acid was enhanced. The addition of chiral nanorods promoted the formation of same chirality nuclei and inhibited the formation of opposite chirality nuclei. The higher chiral recognition ability of C-14-L-Thea compared to C-14-L-Phe was found through simulation experiments. The constructed nanorods exhibited good stability and recyclability.

Enlarging crystal size of zoxamide by polymeric additives that modulate burst nucleation

Hao Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the regulation of the crystallization process of zoxamide using polymeric additives, PVP and PEG, from both thermodynamic and kinetic perspectives. The results show that PVP inhibits nucleation and crystal growth, while PEG has a slight promoting effect. The effects of the additives on the nucleation process are explained by calculating the kinetic parameters and interfacial energy. Additionally, the mechanism for the formation of larger crystal sizes is proposed based on in-situ monitoring of concentration changes.

Toward Understanding the Growth of Cefradine in Aqueous Solution

Xiaowei Cheng et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated crystal growth of cefradine in aqueous solution through experimental methods and molecular dynamics simulations. The results showed that water molecules preferred to be adsorbed onto the (1 0 1) crystal face due to favored hydrophilicity and solvent adsorption sites, and the stronger interaction between water molecules and the (1 0 1) crystal face hindered crystal growth along the radial direction.
