Climate change may outpace current wheat breeding yield improvements in North America

Tianyi Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, genetic advancement of wheat under current and future climate conditions was evaluated in North America. The results showed that advanced winter wheat breeding lines have superior climate-resilience compared to the check variety, while advanced spring wheat breeding lines showed reduced climate resilience. Future climate warming may outpace the yield gains from current breeding progress.
