Dietary folic acid addition reduces abdominal fat deposition mediated by alterations in gut microbiota and SCFA production in broilers

Yanli Liu et al.

Summary: Intensive selective breeding for high growth rate and body weight cause excess abdominal fat in broilers. Gut microbiota and folic acid were reported to regulate lipid metabolism. In this study, folic acid supplementation was found to decrease abdominal fat deposition in broilers by inhibiting adipocyte proliferation and differentiation, possibly through changes in gut microbiota and short chain fatty acid production. Summary: This study established a MetS sheep model induced by excessive-energy diet, analyzed testicular samples, host metabolomes and gut microbiome, and found that the abnormal metabolic effects of vitamin A can be transferred to testicular cells through circulating blood, leading to abnormal spermatogenesis. These findings provide important clues for further exploring the relationship between testicular function and gut microbiota.

Probiotic Potential of a Folate-Producing Strain Latilactobacillus sakei LZ217 and Its Modulation Effects on Human Gut Microbiota

Manman Liu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the folate production potential of strains isolated from raw milk and found that Latilactobacillus sakei LZ217 had the highest folate production. In vitro studies on human gut microbiota showed that LZ217 significantly increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria and promoted the production of butyric acid. These findings suggest that LZ217 could be a candidate probiotic for fortifying folate and regulating intestinal microecology.

Maternal obesity during pregnancy leads to derangements in one-carbon metabolism and the gut microbiota: implications for fetal development and offspring wellbeing

Eleonora Rubini et al.

Summary: A healthy diet before and during pregnancy is important for acquiring essential B vitamins and maintaining a healthy gut microbiota. Obese pregnant women often have derangements in 1-carbon metabolism and gut dysbiosis, which can lead to adverse pregnancy outcomes and impaired fetal development. Dietary and lifestyle counseling, along with monitoring B vitamin levels and gut microbiome, may be beneficial for preconceptional and pregnant obese women. Probiotic bacteria with folate biosynthetic capacity may also be used as intervention strategies.
