Indoor exposure to phthalates and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) to Canadian children: the Kingston allergy birth cohort

Yuchao Wan et al.

Summary: This study characterized concentrations of eight phthalates and 12 PAHs in floor dust from the bedrooms of 79 children. Some phthalates were associated with product and material use, while some PAHs were associated with household characteristics. No significant increases in risk of atopy was found based on phthalate or PAH dust concentrations.

The concentration of phthalates in toys and children's care items in Kosovo

Tahir Arbneshi et al.

Summary: This study analyzed toys and children's care items available in the Kosovo market, most of which were imported from China. Phthalates were widely detected, with some samples not meeting EU standards. Especially products intended for children under three years old and designed to be placed in the mouth.

Biomarkers of phthalates and alternative plasticizers in the Flemish Environment and Health Study (FLEHS IV): Time trends and exposure assessment

Michiel Bastiaensen et al.

Summary: The restriction on legacy phthalate esters (PEs) in consumer products has led to an increased use of alternative plasticizers (APs). In FLEHS IV study, exposure to PEs has decreased while exposure to newer APs like DINCH and DEHTP is widespread among adolescents in Flanders, Belgium. Additionally, the levels of AP exposure biomarkers in urine were generally lower than PE metabolites, but the estimated daily intakes (EDIs) of DINCH and DEHTP were considerable.

Extraction of phthalic acid esters from soft drinks and infusions by dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction based on the solidification of the floating organic drop using a menthol-based natural deep eutectic solvent

Cecilia Ortega-Zamora et al.

Summary: In this study, a natural deep eutectic solvent was applied for the extraction of nine phthalic acid esters using a dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction method. The method calibration showed good linearity and relative recovery values for all analytes and matrices. Analysis of samples from different supermarkets revealed the presence of several phthalic acid esters, with some being quantifiable in specific samples.

Prevalence of phthalate alternatives and monoesters alongside traditional phthalates in indoor dust from a typical e-waste recycling area: Source elucidation and co-exposure risk

Man Deng et al.

Summary: This study found elevated concentrations of phthalate (PAE) alternatives and high-molecular-weight (HMW) PAEs in indoor dust from e-waste recycling industrial park and adjacent communities. Significant correlations between the concentrations of PAE alternatives and HMW PAEs were observed, suggesting simultaneous use in electronic and electrical products. Occupational exposure of e-waste dismantling workers to multiple PAEs and PAE alternatives raises concerns.

Phthalates and Their Impacts on Human Health

Yufei Wang et al.

Summary: Phthalates are widely used chemicals that have been shown to be endocrine disruptors and harmful to human health. Chronic exposure can adversely affect the endocrine system and multiple organ functions, especially in children and adolescents, with long-term impacts. While some countries have restrictions in place, it is necessary for more countries to establish further measures to reduce public exposure to phthalates.

The effects of the phthalate DiNP on reproduction

Shuhong Yang et al.

Summary: DiNP is a high molecular weight, general purpose plasticizer used in the manufacture of polymers and consumer products. Studies show negative effects on ovarian function and fertility in female animal models, while male studies indicate disruptive effects on male reproduction and fertility. Controversy remains regarding direct effects on the uterus, highlighting the need for further research on human reproduction effects.
