Late Cretaceous Orbitolinidae (Larger Benthic Foraminifera): Taxonomy, determination, biostratigraphy and palaeobiogeography

Felix Schlagintweit

Summary: The translated passage discusses the evolution and extinctions of larger benthic foraminifera with conical tests of the families Orbitolinidae and Coskinolinidae. It highlights the reduced taxonomic diversity of Orbitolinidae in the Late Cretaceous, with only ten genera present. The survival of Dictyoconus Blanckenhorn from the mass extinction event at the K-Pg boundary is also noted.

Bakhtiarellidae, a new end-Cretaceous 'hauraniiform' family of Larger Benthic Foraminifera: taxonomic inventory and phylogenetic assessment

Felix Schlagintweit et al.

Summary: The new genus Bakhtiariella, characterized by a trochospirally coiled initial test part with angular chamber margins and a coarse subepidermal network, is described from the Upper Cretaceous of Iran. It is included in the new family Bakhtiarellidae and compared with the Hauraniidae. This discovery provides further evidence for the diversification and endemism of Larger Benthic Foraminifera in the Arabian Plate during the Upper Cretaceous period.
