Microstructure and Catalytic Activity of Al13Fe4 and Al13Co4 Melt-Spun Alloys

Amelia Zieba et al.

Summary: Rapidly solidified alloys with nominal compositions of Al76.5Fe23.5 and Al75.8Co24.2, corresponding to the Al13Fe4 and Al13Co4 phases, were produced using a melt spinning technique. The microstructure and phase composition of the ribbons were examined, showing an increase in grain size after heat treatment and phase transformations for both Al13Fe4 and Al13Co4 phases. Catalytic properties for phenylacetylene hydrogenation were studied, with the highest selectivity to styrene observed for the Al13Fe4 alloy in the as-spun state.

Exploring water adsorption and reactivity in a series of doped aluminum cluster anions

Martin Sulka et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the interactions and reactivity of aluminum cluster anions with water through central- and surface-doping. Central doping alters the electronic structure of clusters and creates active sites for controlling reactivity with water, while surface doping results in unequal charge distribution on the cluster surface, dominating adsorption and reactivity through electrostatic effects. These findings highlight the significant influence of doping position on cluster interaction and reactivity, contributing to a deeper understanding of doping effects.

Perspective on intermetallics towards efficient electrocatalytic water-splitting

Carsten Walter et al.

Summary: Intermetallic compounds show attractive electronic, physical, and chemical properties, making them ideal materials for electrocatalytic applications. However, their widespread use is often hindered by complex and energy-intensive processes, leading to larger particles and decreased surface areas. Alternative synthetic strategies are being explored to achieve high performance and stable electrode materials.
