This review discusses the evolution of IL/porous material composites as a research field by exploring different types of porous materials, including metal organic frameworks (MOFs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), zeolites, and carbonaceous materials. The challenges, opportunities, synthesis methods, characterization techniques, applications, and future prospects of IL/porous materials are discussed to provide a roadmap for this area. The future advancements discussed in this review will provide insights into the design and development of novel hybrid materials and their potential to replace conventional materials.

Summary: Two novel di-cation liquid-copper-based Cu-BTC materials were obtained by modifying CuBTC with dicationic ionic liquids. The modified DILs/CuBTC showed improved CO2 adsorption capacity compared to CuBTC, with the DIL-2/CuBTC modified by [C4(Vim)2]Br2 exhibiting the best adsorption performance and cyclic stability. The long chains of DILs and newly formed hydrogen bonds provided new active sites for enhanced CO2 adsorption.
