Dispersive propagation of localized waves in a mass-in-mass metamaterial lattice

A. V. Porubov et al.

Summary: This study investigates the evolution of linear localized waves in a discrete mass-in-mass lattice. The presence of attached mass in the model leads to dispersion, resulting in the appearance of acoustic and optic wave modes. The dynamics of the waves are described using the dispersion relation obtained from harmonic wave solutions in the continuum limit. Numerical simulations of localized initial perturbations are compared with analytical harmonic wave solutions, revealing differences in the wave dynamics depending on the parameters of the initial conditions. Contrary to the periodic analytical solution, no evidence of a band gap is found in the simulations of localized waves.

On control of harmonic waves in an acoustic metamaterial

A. V. Porubov et al.

Summary: The study investigates the generation of harmonic waves in a mass-in-mass model of an acoustic metamaterial. It is found that boundary harmonic excitation outside the band gap leads to the formation of periodic waves, while no waves are generated inside the band gap. A switch-on/off control is developed to achieve the formation of harmonic waves within the band gap.
