Delayed type hypersensitivity reactions to various allergens may differently model inflammatory skin diseases

Ana B. Pavel et al.

Summary: The treatment of inflammatory skin diseases needs experimental models of skin inflammation in humans to predict treatment effects. In this study, four common sensitizers were administered to healthy patients, and it was found that diphencyprone induced the strongest immune response and best modeled the barrier defects characteristic of atopic dermatitis and psoriasis.

CD4+ T cells inhibit the generation of CD8+ epidermal-resident memory T cells directed against clinically relevant contact allergens

Anders Boutrup Funch et al.

Summary: This study reveals that clinically relevant contact allergens can generate pathogenic, epidermal CD8(+) T-RM cells that recruit neutrophils following re-exposure to the allergen, but this response is normally suppressed by the induction of anti-inflammatory CD4(+) T cells.

CD8(+) tissue-resident memory T cells recruit neutrophils that are essential for flare-ups in contact dermatitis

Anders B. Funch et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that epidermal CD8(+) T-RM cells play a crucial role in causing ACD flare-ups through rapid recruitment of neutrophils to the epidermis.
