Studying Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Recycled Concrete by Using Ceramic Aggregate

Yumei Wang et al.

Summary: This paper studied the impact of replacing natural coarse aggregate with ceramic aggregate and natural sand with recycled fine aggregate, on the physical, mechanical, and thermal properties of concrete. The results show that ceramic aggregate improves the thermal properties of recycled concrete, and the negative influence of ceramic aggregate on compressive strength can be controlled by the replacement ratio of aggregate in concrete. Based on the overall comparison and analysis, a mix with 50% ceramic aggregate shows relatively better strength and thermal insulation compared to other mixes.

Effect of ceramic waste tile as a fine aggregate on the mechanical properties of low-carbon ultrahigh performance concrete

Liqing Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the replacement of sand with ceramic waste tile aggregate (CTWA) in ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). The results show that CTWA reduces the flowability of UHPC but does not negatively affect its fracture toughness. UHPC with 100% CTWA exhibits improved compressive and flexural strength. Microstructure analysis reveals that CTWA improves the interface transition area and pore structure of UHPC. CTWA, with its economic and environmental advantages, is a viable alternative fine aggregate for UHPC.

Summary: This research investigates the feasibility of using dry crushed pomegranate peel waste as a thermal insulator in the production of light clay bricks. The study examines the physical and mechanical properties of the bricks with different levels of pomegranate peel waste substitution, as well as their photocatalytic activity under sunlight. The results indicate that the use of pomegranate peel waste increases thermal conductivity, water absorption, density, and shrinkage, while decreasing compressive strength.

Improving thermal and mechanical properties of concrete by using ceramic electrical insulator waste as aggregates

Hamed Gharibi et al.

Summary: This study focused on the thermal and mechanical performance of concrete made with ceramic electrical insulator waste. The results showed that replacing natural aggregate with ceramic insulator waste increased compressive strength and decreased water absorption. The thermal conductivity was also significantly reduced with the complete replacement of aggregates with crushed ceramic insulator waste. These findings suggest that concrete containing ceramic electrical insulator waste can effectively reduce temperature changes and contribute to sustainable development.

Engineering properties of self-cured normal and high strength concrete produced using polyethylene glycol and porous ceramic waste as coarse aggregate

Mohamed Amin et al.

Summary: This study explores the impact of curing regimes for SC on NSC and HSC, as well as the effect of high temperatures on SC concrete. The study suggests three self-curing regimes based on compressive strength, durability, and performance under high temperatures. The combination of 2% PEG and 10% PCWA achieved the highest compressive strength, while a 3% PEG dose showed optimal durability properties. Coarse aggregate replacement with PCWA up to 25% helped mitigate the negative effects of high temperatures on concrete properties.

Utilization of ceramic waste as partially cement substitute - A review

Abdulaziz Alsaif

Summary: The extreme demand for natural resources, especially for cement ingredients, has been driven by the noticeable growth in the construction industry. Cement production has a negative impact on climate change due to the significant CO2 emissions. Ceramic waste can be used to partially replace cement and mitigate the negative effects. Research indicates that while replacing cement with ceramic waste powder has some negative effects on properties like workability and compressive strength, it can improve durability properties and result in a denser concrete structure. Future research should explore the potential of this substitution further.
