Properties of green mortar blended with waste concrete-brick powder at various components, replacement ratios and particle sizes

Huixia Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the properties of green mortar containing different waste concrete-brick powder (WCBP). The results show that WCBP has certain pozzolanic activity and good filler effect, with the waste brick powder having superior activity compared to the waste concrete powder. Mixing WCBP decreases the fluidity and prolongs the setting time of the mortar. Incorporating waste brick powder refines the pore size of the mortar, while mixing waste concrete powder enlarges the pore size. The mechanical strength and water absorption resistance of the mortar generally decrease with WCBP addition, with a linear relationship between the WCBP replacement level and strength of the mortar. Increasing the proportion of waste brick powder content improves the mechanical strength and water absorption resistance of the WCBP mortar. Optimizing the WCBP component, replacement ratio, and particle size can prepare WCBP mortar with satisfactory properties.

Experimental study on the early-age properties of cement pastes with recycled brick powder

Xu Luo et al.

Summary: The study found that the replacement ratio of recycled brick powder (RBP) is inversely proportional to the hydration heat, and the particle size of RBP plays a crucial role in the hydration process of cement. Incorporating RBP reduces the flowability of the cement paste, increases the yield stress and viscosity, and delays the setting time.

Summary: This study demonstrates the successful implementation of eco-friendly recycled powders (RPs) in concrete, reducing cement demand and associated CO2 emissions. Despite having weaker pozzolanic/hydraulic activity, the RPs positively affected the mechanical properties and durability of concrete.

Rheological behavior and compressive strength of concrete made with recycled fine aggregate of different size range

Biao Li et al.

Summary: This study examined the rheological properties and compressive strength of concrete containing recycled fine aggregate (RFA) with different particle size ranges. The results showed that the developed polycarboxylate superplasticizer was more compatible with RFA and different particle size ranges of RFA had a clear impact on the compressive strength of concrete.

Analytical tool for assessment of the rheological behavior of recycled aggregate concrete

Mayara Amario et al.

Summary: This study introduces an analytical tool for estimating the rheological behavior of concretes with Recycled Concrete Aggregates (RCAs) in the fresh state. The tool is calibrated based on experimental campaigns measuring the impact of RCAs on yield stress, plastic viscosity, and slump values. The research highlights the key role of specific features of RCAs, such as shape index and attached mortar, in the rheological behavior of recycled aggregate concretes.

CO2 sequestration by construction and demolition waste aggregates and effect on mortars and concrete performance-An overview

Ricardo Infante Gomes et al.

Summary: Global warming, caused by the increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, particularly CO2, calls for urgent reduction of emissions. Construction and demolition waste (CDW) as recycled aggregates (RA) in construction materials is limited, but CO2 curing treatment positively impacts their performance in mortars and concrete.

Long -term hydration and microstructure evolution of blended cement containing ground granulated blast furnace slag and waste clay brick

Yasong Zhao et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the interaction between ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) and waste clay brick powder (CBP) in blended cement containing 30% and 50% Portland cement. Both GGBFS and CBP decrease the hydration heat of blended cement, but GGBFS accelerates C3A hydration more significantly. GGBFS mainly improves compressive strength before 90 days, while CBP continues to enhance strength after an initial reduction.
