Damage evaluation of rock salt under multilevel cyclic loading with constant stress intervals using AE monitoring and CT scanning

Kai Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the damage evolution of salt caverns under cyclic loading, using acoustic emission monitoring and CT scanning to evaluate stability. Results show that damage accumulates with increasing cycles and loading stages, with different types of cracks present in the rock salt.

Anisotropic mechanical characteristics and energy evolution of artificial columnar jointed rock masses subjected to multi-level cyclic loading

Tao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of joint dip angle, fatigue effect, and stress level on the mechanical properties and failure behavior of CJRM specimens. The results indicate that the relationship between the characteristic stress and joint dip angle follows a typical U-shaped pattern, and the fatigue effect increases the number and distribution of cracks in CJRM specimens.

A Novel Staged Cyclic Damage Constitutive Model for Brittle Rock Based on Linear Energy Dissipation Law: Modelling and Validation

Fengqiang Gong et al.

Summary: A novel staged cyclic damage constitutive model for brittle rock is proposed and verified in this study. The model accurately reflects the cyclic loading-unloading behaviors and hysteresis process of brittle rocks by considering the accumulation effect of plastic strain, providing an important reference for studying rock damage and constitutive model for brittle rocks.

Investigations on the macro-meso cumulative damage mechanism of the discontinuities in soft-hard interbedded rock mass under pre-peak cyclic shear loading

Bin Xu et al.

Summary: The macro-meso cumulative damage mechanism of discontinuities in soft-hard interbedded rock mass was investigated through laboratory tests and numerical calculations. The shear stress-displacement curve can be divided into six stages, and the variations of shear strength and displacement under different conditions were analyzed. The curve of meso cumulative damage crack number shows different characteristics in the early, middle, and later stages. Typical failure modes of rock discontinuities were summarized, including compaction-crack initiation failure, cyclic dislocation-penetration failure, and separation-gnawing failure. The distribution of cumulative damage cracks was evaluated.

A variational-based homogenization model for plastic shakedown analysis of porous materials with a large range of porosity

J. Zhang et al.

Summary: A new homogenization model is developed for porous media, with a macroscopic fatigue criterion being established based on the variational principle. Dirac's measure is adopted to simplify the volume integral, showing the dependence of the plastic shakedown limit load on the invariants of the macroscopic stress tensor. The new criterion significantly improves the accuracy of plastic shakedown limit prediction for porous materials with large values of porosity.
