End-to-end Precision Agriculture UAV-Based Functionalities Tailored to Field Characteristics

Emmanuel K. Raptis et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel Precision Agriculture platform that addresses the limited battery life issue by designing missions tailored to each field's specific characteristics. The system is capable of designing coverage missions for any type of UAV, considering field shape and obstacles. It also includes automated image processing and weed detection using a deep learning module. The effectiveness of the platform was validated through extensive experimentation in cotton fields in Larissa, Greece.

Dataset on UAV RGB videos acquired over a vineyard including bunch labels for object detection and tracking

Mar Ariza-Sentis et al.

Summary: Counting the number of grape bunches at an early stage of development is important for winegrowers to estimate potential yield. Manual counting is laborious and time-consuming, but remote sensing using unmanned aerial vehicles with RGB or multispectral cameras can quickly and accurately perform this task. This dataset includes 40 RGB videos from a vineyard in northern Spain, and provides mask labels of visible grape bunches. The dataset was gathered and labelled to train object detection and tracking algorithms, and also helps winegrowers check the sanitary status of the vineyard.

Real-time tracking and counting of grape clusters in the field based on channel pruning with YOLOv5s

Lei Shen et al.

Summary: Accurate fruit counting is crucial for the grape wine industry to improve logistics and decision-making, leading to higher quality wine production. This study developed a lightweight counting pipeline for real-time tracking and counting of grape clusters in field conditions. By using a channel pruning algorithm, a lightweight YOLOv5s cluster detection model was obtained, along with the introduction of soft non-maximum suppression to improve detection performance. The study also implemented online multiple object tracking of clusters using the SORT algorithm and introduced counting lines for different counting modes. This research provides valuable technical reference for the development of orchard robots and enables real-time automated yield estimation and accurate crop management decisions.
