Measures for the viable agri-food supply chains: A multi-criteria approach

Tomas Balezentis et al.

Summary: This paper provides an analysis of the current state of concepts related to agricultural supply chain functioning. The concept of viable supply chains, which includes sustainability, agility, and resilience, is considered the most comprehensive. However, it is rarely applied to agricultural supply chains. The authors discuss theoretical foundations, empirical manifestations, and propose a framework for analyzing agricultural supply chain viability. Methodologies and indicators are critically examined, highlighting the importance of considering aggregation levels, supply chain coverage, and data sources in the design of analytical tools. Finally, a potential case study on agricultural supply chain viability is discussed based on theoretical findings and empirical context.

Robust goal programming approach for healthcare network management for perishable products under disruption

Aliakbar Hasani et al.

Summary: A robust goal programming model is developed for healthcare network design problem under disruption. The model optimizes the total deviation from three goals including network cost, network coverage, and network reliability. Uncertainty in healthcare demand and facility capacity is considered, as well as the perishability of healthcare products. The use of an option contract ensures coordination with suppliers during pre and post-disaster periods, while suitable strategies are proposed to demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of the designed network.

A food bank network design examining food nutritional value and freshness: A multi objective robust fuzzy model

Javid Ghahremani-Nahr et al.

Summary: One of the main reasons for food scarcity is the improper and uneven distribution among those in need. This article proposes a mathematical programming model to optimize the cost, food freshness, and nutritional value in the design of a food bank network. The results show that by balancing cost and food freshness, a more cost-effective and higher quality food supply network can be obtained.

Revised solution technique for a bi-level location-inventory-routing problem under uncertainty of demand and perishability of products

Fezzeh Partovi et al.

Summary: Bi-level programming is an effective tool for decentralized decision-making in supply chains. This study proposes a bi-level programming model to minimize the total operational costs in a two-echelon supply chain with uncertain demand, by determining the optimal locations, routes, shipments, and inventory levels. A scenario-based programming approach is used to address the uncertainty, and a revised method using multichoice goal programming is designed to minimize deviations from ideal solutions.

Integrated supplier selection, scheduling, and routing problem for perishable product supply chain: A distributionally robust approach

Omid Hashemi-Amiri et al.

Summary: Due to the global outbreak of COVID-19, perishable product supply chains have been impacted, increasing the risks of food insecurity in affected countries. Supply and demand uncertainty significantly affect supply chain networks, highlighting the importance of food provision and distribution. This study proposes a bi-objective optimization model for a three-echelon perishable food supply chain network, aiming to mitigate supply and demand uncertainties and optimize network costs and suppliers' reliability. The model uses distributionally robust modeling and chance-constrained approaches, and is reformulated as a mixed-integer linear program. A real-world case study in the poultry industry is conducted to validate the model's performance and applicability.
