A novel two-echelon hierarchical location-allocation-routing optimization for green energy-efficient logistics systems

Erfan Babaee Tirkolaee et al.

Summary: The present paper addresses a novel two-echelon multi-product Location-Allocation-Routing problem (LARP) in a Supply Chain Network (SCN). It aims to minimize the total cost and integrate issues such as disruption, environmental pollution, and energy-efficient vehicles. Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms are developed to solve the NP-hard problem. The proposed algorithms yield high-quality results and are validated with a case study and sensitivity analyses.

An exact algorithm for the two-echelon vehicle routing problem with drones

Hang Zhou et al.

Summary: This study focuses on a new variant of the vehicle routing problem with drones, the two-echelon vehicle routing problem with drones, where multiple vehicles and drones collaborate to serve customers. The study considers practical constraints such as delivery deadlines and energy capacity of drones. Unlike previous research, the number of drones taken by each vehicle is treated as a decision variable, providing flexibility in planning vehicle and drone routes. The study proposes a mixed-integer linear programming model and an exact branch-and-price algorithm to solve the problem efficiently, and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm in optimizing routes and the potential for further improvements.

The two-echelon stochastic multi-period capacitated location-routing problem

Imen Ben Mohamed et al.

Summary: This paper addresses a distribution network design problem under uncertainty, namely the two-echelon stochastic multi-period capacitated location-routing problem (2E-SM-CLRP). It proposes a logic-based Benders decomposition approach to solve this model, where the location and capacity decisions are taken by solving the Benders master problem and the routing decisions are determined in the recourse problem. Computational experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed approach and provide managerial insights on the impact of uncertainties and multi-period settings.

A two-echelon location routing problem with mobile satellites for last-mile delivery: mathematical formulation and clustering-based heuristic method

Hendri Sutrisno et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new variety of the two-echelon location routing problem (2E-LRP) called 2E-LRP-MS, which aims to reduce costs by using mobile satellites instead of fixed-location satellites. The method utilizes first echelon vehicles as mobile satellites to replenish second echelon vehicles in the city. Experimental results show that 2E-LRP-MS is more flexible than traditional models and the proposed clustering-based simultaneous neighborhood search (CSNS) method is more efficient than other heuristic methods and commercial solver CPLEX for two-echelon routing problems.

Multi-period two-echelon location routing problem for disaster waste clean-up

Cheng Cheng et al.

Summary: This study develops a model to minimize the cost and duration of disaster waste clean-up using Temporary Disaster Waste Management Sites (TDWMSs). Results show that using TDWMSs can reduce both total waste clean-up cost and duration, with the capacities of the sites significantly impacting the clean-up time and duration.

A two-echelon location-routing problem with synchronisation

Seyed Mostafa Mirhedayatian et al.

Summary: This paper introduces and defines a new two-echelon location-routing problem (2E-LRP) based on an actual problem of a national postal service company. The research proposes a decomposition-based heuristic as a solution approach and provides data-driven schemes for use in combination with the model, along with computational results for different sets of instances.

Summary: This study presents the two-echelon vehicle routing problem with satellite bi-synchronization (2E-VRP-SBS), which plays an essential role in modeling the routing problems of two-echelon networks. A mixed-integer programming model is developed and experimentally evaluated in this research.

Summary: Biomass as an important renewable energy source has gained attention, but inefficient biomass logistics systems hinder biomass utilization. This study proposes a hybrid heuristic algorithm to address the biomass resource location-routing problem, and tests its effectiveness and efficiency through computational examples.
