Modeling Chinese Secondary School Students' Behavioral Intentions to Learn Artificial Intelligence with the Theory of Planned Behavior and Self-Determination Theory

Ching Sing Chai et al.

Summary: It is now essential for learners to acquire basic literacy and competencies in artificial intelligence (AI). Although educators are designing AI curricula, there is a lack of empirical studies on students' perceptions of learning AI. This study developed a research model integrating the theory of planned behavior and the self-determination theory to explain students' behavioral intention to learn AI. The findings suggest that the design of learning resources, autonomy, and AI for social good significantly predict students' intention to learn AI, providing insights for the development of AI education in schools.

Empowering the collective reflection-based argumentation mapping strategy to enhance students' argumentative speaking

Darmawansah Darmawansah et al.

Summary: Designing learning strategies for EFL learners in the context of argumentative speaking is crucial. Argumentation mapping provides a visual representation of collaborative arguments, while collective reflection promotes reflective and higher-order thinking. This study combines the educational theory of collective reflection with argumentation mapping to create a Collective Reflection-based Argumentation Mapping (CR-AM) learning strategy. The findings indicate that the CR-AM strategy significantly improves students' argumentative speaking skills and lexical complexity. Students in the CR-AM group also showed higher tendencies of communication and collaboration.
