Leak detection, size estimation and localization in branched pipe flows

Henrik Anfinsen et al.

Summary: We propose a leak detection, size estimation, and localization algorithm for a branched pipe system, which only requires flow and pressure measurements at the inlet and outlet boundaries. By analyzing the structure of parameter uncertainties, we prove that the total leak size can be estimated and any number of point leaks can be located.

Linear Tracking MPC for Nonlinear Systems-Part I: The Model-Based Case

Julian Berberich et al.

Summary: This article introduces a tracking model predictive control scheme for nonlinear systems using linearized dynamics, showing exponential stabilization towards desired equilibrium. By balancing performance, robustness, and region of attraction size with a cost matrix, the closed-loop stability mainly depends on it. The application to a nonlinear continuous stirred tank reactor demonstrates comparable performance to a nonlinear MPC scheme with significantly improved computational efficiency.

An MHE-based MPC strategy for simultaneous energy generation maximization and water level management in inland waterways

Fatemeh Karimi Pour et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a strategy for combined control and state estimation in inland waterways, aiming to optimize water level management and maximize hydroelectricity generation. By utilizing the energy generated during lock filling and draining operations, turbines installed in canal locks are used for power generation.

Discrete-time modeling and output regulation of gas pipeline networks

Junyao Xie et al.

Summary: A discrete-time output regulator design for gas pipeline networks is proposed in this work, based on linearized models and internal model principle, with consideration of observer design for state estimation and stability analysis of the system. Simulation examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Nonlinear Model Predictive Control of a Variable-Speed Pumped-Storage Power Plant

Jan-Frederik Mennemann et al.

Summary: This article introduces a nonlinear model predictive control strategy for pumped-storage power plants, which achieves fast dynamic adjustment while meeting system constraints, and proposes measures to ensure real-time capability. Through simulation studies, the feasibility and robustness of the control strategy in tracking fast-changing grid powers and parameter uncertainties are demonstrated.
