Hybrid modeling supported development of an industrial small-molecule flow chemistry process

Jakub Polak et al.

Summary: Continuous manufacturing of small molecules is increasingly supported by models to reduce experiments and increase insight. In this study, a hybrid model is used to investigate the impact of raw material variations and process parameter changes on the quantity and quality of a flow chemistry process. The model is then used for process optimization, considering the risk of model misprediction. The obtained optimal conditions are in agreement with expectations and highlight the potential of hybrid model-based process development.

ANN for hybrid modelling of batch and fed-batch chemical reactors

Yessin Ammar et al.

Summary: A novel modelling methodology using artificial neural networks is proposed to develop a global model for predicting the time evolution of concentrations of all species in the reaction medium. Different recurrent neural networks are utilized to estimate specific species as a function of operating parameters and concentrations, which are then assembled into a complex global model. This approach successfully represents the kinetic evolution of chemical species under varied operating conditions, and the neural network-based global model is integrated into a hybrid model for transposing reactions to a semi-batch chemical reactor.
