Effect of surface modification of carbon fiber based on magnetron sputtering technology on tensile properties

Li Yang et al.

Summary: Carbon films were constructed on the surface of carbon fibers using magnetron sputtering to improve their surface defects and mechanical properties. The tensile properties of the fibers before and after modification were tested, and the effect of the modification method on the tensile properties and dispersion of the breaking strength of the fibers was analyzed. The magnetron sputtering process successfully repaired the surface and improved the dispersion of the breaking strength, while also enhancing the tensile fracture toughness through the crack effect mechanism.
