B-N-P-linked covalent organic frameworks for efficient flame retarding and toxic smoke suppression of polyacrylonitrile composite fiber

Hongyun Peng et al.

Summary: A novel boron-nitrogen-phosphorus-linked COFs (BNPC) was developed and employed as flame-retardant filler for PAN fiber, significantly reducing peak heat release rate, total smoke production, and CO production. The BNPC also improved the limiting oxygen index value and offered a cooperative catalytic effect for producing a highly compact and crosslinked char layer barrier. This research provides a scalable strategy for designing COFs with multiple flame retardant elements and shows great application potential in functional polymer materials.

Flame retardant and form-stable phase change composites based on phytic acid/dopamine-decorated delignified wood for efficient solar-thermal energy conversion and storage

Shunpan Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, a phytic acid/dopamine-decorated delignified wood (APDW) with superior photothermal effects and excellent flame retardancy was successfully constructed. Novel form-stable and flame-retardant phase change composites (ADPCMs) were fabricated by impregnating n-eicosane into APDWs. The APDWs preserved the unique anisotropic porous structure and prevented liquid leakage issues. The ADPCMs exhibited high thermal storage density and improved photothermal conversion and storage efficiency with the introduction of polydopamine (PDA). Additionally, the flame retardancy of ADPCMs was enhanced with the increasing content of phytic acid (PA) in the composites.
