Summary: The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanical behavior of microstructured materials, specifically porous media. Discrete and continuous models were compared to analyze the material's response under static and dynamic conditions. Variations in the internal characteristics of the material, such as microstructure scale and void percentage, were examined for a thorough comparison among the models.

Effects of Infill Density, Wall Perimeter and Layer Height in Fabricating 3D Printing Products

Mohammad Azeeb Mazlan et al.

Summary: Three-dimensional printing is widely used in various fields and the study focuses on achieving the optimal weight-to-performance ratio for 3D-printed parts. The material and printing parameters, such as infill density, wall perimeter, and layer height, significantly affect the end products. The study is divided into simulation analysis and experimental analysis to determine the trend of Young's modulus for the material, and any differences between the results are analyzed and discussed. The results demonstrate that increasing these parameters enhances the tensile elasticity of the parts.

Self-Monitoring Performance of 3D-Printed Poly-Ether-Ether-Ketone Carbon Nanotube Composites

Lorenzo Paleari et al.

Summary: In this study, PEEK carbon-nanotube (CNT) self-monitoring composites with different levels of filler loading were extruded as 3D-printable filaments. The resulting composites showed varying gauge factor values depending on the filler loading. 3D-printed PEEK 3CNT and PEEK 5CNT composites exhibited piezo-resistive behavior and had average gauge factors of 4.46 and 2.03, respectively.

Mechanical performance of 3D printed polyether-ether-ketone nanocomposites: An experimental and analytic approach

Marianna Rinaldi et al.

Summary: In this study, PEEK nanocomposites with different amounts of CNT were 3D printed using fused filament fabrication. Analytical models were used to evaluate the mechanical properties of the composites and the combination of Takayanagi I and Takayanagi II models showed good accuracy in predicting the elastic modulus. However, these models were not able to accurately predict the mechanical behavior of 3D printed parts due to the influence of mechanical percolation and interphase strength between printed layers.

Investigating the translaminar fracture toughness of 3D printed semi-woven and non-woven continuous carbon fibre composites

Cheng Huang et al.

Summary: The translaminar fracture toughness of two different continuous fibre 3D printed ply architectures was evaluated using a compact tension test. The performances of a baseline 0/90 cross-ply architecture and a semi-woven 0/90 ply architecture resembling Advanced Placed Ply (AP-Ply) fabricated using automated fibre placement were compared. The experimental results showed that the laminate architecture has a slight influence on the trans-laminar fracture toughness of 3D printed carbon fibre composites, and both ply architectures exhibited a rising R curve, with the semi-woven samples showing a less pronounced curve.

Fabrication of PLA/PCL/Graphene Nanoplatelet (GNP) Electrically Conductive Circuit Using the Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) 3D Printing Technique

Nour-Alhoda Masarra et al.

Summary: This study fabricated electrically conductive composites using the fused filament fabrication (FFF) technique and compared their properties with injection-molded samples. The results showed that the 3D-printed samples with graphene exhibited semiconductor behavior, while the injection-molded samples were insulators. The printing raster angles also influenced the electrical conductivity results. Moreover, an increase in the graphene content increased the Young's modulus of the composites.
