Chemically-induced trout model of acute intestinal inflammation using TNBS

Summary: Chemically-induced models of intestinal inflammation are useful for studying immune responses and inflammation. However, their application in fish is currently limited. We propose salmonids as a suitable fish model family based on genetic diversity, toxicological sensitivity, and economic importance. We established a rainbow trout model of chemically-induced intestinal inflammation using TNBS and observed increased thickness of primary and secondary folds, as well as increased immune cell infiltration in the treated trout compared to controls. This study provides a reproducible model of rapid TNBS-induction of moderate intestinal inflammation.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of copper toxicity on freshwater fish by studying the oxidative stress, liver transcriptome, intestinal microbiota, and histopathology of common carp exposed to copper. The results showed that copper exposure induced oxidative stress, altered gene expression in the liver, changed bacterial composition in the intestines, and caused tissue damage. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying copper toxicity in fish.
