Biochemical and Pathophysiological Responses in Capoeta capoeta under Lethal and Sub-Lethal Exposures of Silver Nanoparticles

Dariush Azadikhah et al.

Summary: The use of nano-based products raises concerns about potential risks in their manufacturing, transportation, waste disposal, and management operations. A study using riverine carp as a model demonstrated the acute toxicity of silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs). The research focused on the impacts of Ag-NPs on fish physiology and found significant changes in blood parameters and tissue damage. Increasing concentrations of Ag-NPs resulted in more severe health effects on the fish, indicating a reduced ability to survive in the wild.

6-Benzylaminopurine causes lipid dyshomeostasis via disruption of glycerophospholipid metabolism in zebrafish

Guiyi Gong et al.

Summary: The exposure to 6-Benzylaminopurine (6-BA) caused hepatopathies and lipid accumulation in zebrafish larvae, with altered expression of genes associated with fatty acid and glycerophospholipid metabolism. It was identified that lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) plays a major role in the toxicity of 6-BA.

Influence of biosynthesized nanoparticles exposure on mortality, residual deposition, and intestinal bacterial dysbiosis in Cyprinus carpio

Mian Adnan Kakakhel et al.

Summary: Nanotechnology offers significant possibilities in applied sciences, but the introduction of silver nanoparticles into aquatic environments during fabrication can lead to severe contamination, particularly in freshwater fish. This pioneering study used animal blood to fabricate silver nanoparticles and investigated their toxicity in Cyprinus carpio (C. carpio). The results showed that silver nanoparticles caused mortality, accumulation in different tissues, and had a stress influence on intestinal homeostasis by affecting the intestinal bacterial community in C. carpio, which could have a significant effect on fish growth.

Summary: This study evaluated the toxic effects of selected pesticides on the health of freshwater catfish. The exposure to pesticides led to changes in hematological parameters and cellular enzyme functionalities. Impala exhibited the highest pesticidal activity, followed by Ekalux and Neemstar. The results suggest that natural pesticides may be more preferable for rice field application in terms of environmental safety.

Biomedical applications of mesoporous silica nanoparticles as a drug delivery carrier

Hafiz Ahmed et al.

Summary: Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) have unique properties that make them attractive to biomedical researchers. Over the past decade, these properties have been extensively explored in various biomedical applications, such as drug delivery, photodynamic therapy, biosensors, and tissue engineering. However, further in vivo studies are needed to analyze the potential adverse reactions and side effects of these nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems for clinical translation.

Divya Singh et al.

Summary: Nanotechnology has great potential in agriculture, but its environmental impact and risks are still not well understood. The effects of nanoparticles on soil life and their fate in the environment require further study. There is a need for more knowledge on factors such as adsorption/desorption, dissolution, and biological degradation of nanoparticles. Additionally, detailed decision criteria and international consensus are necessary to ensure the safety of nanotechnology.

Metabolomics reveals the reproductive abnormality in female zebrafish exposed to environmentally relevant levels of climbazole

Ting Zou et al.

Summary: This study found that exposure to climbazole in zebrafish significantly affects reproductive function, leading to decreased fecundity and inhibited cell development in the ovaries. Metabolomics analysis and other biochemical assays revealed that climbazole may trigger reproductive toxicity through alterations in steroidogenesis and oxidative stress, shedding new light on the mechanism of reproductive dysfunction caused by climbazole.
