Applicability of ketone-gasoline blended fuels for spark ignition engine through energy-exergy analyses

Vishal Patil et al.

Summary: This study investigates the potential blending of ketone biofuels with gasoline in a spark-ignition engine. The blends of ketones, including 2-butanone, 4-Methyl-2-pentanone, cyclopentanone, and cyclo-hexanone, were tested with variable engine speed conditions in a spark ignition engine. The results show that 30% ketone fuel with 70% gasoline has lower emissions compared to pure gasoline. The scientific impact of this research is the applicability of selective ketone biofuels in SI engines for reducing hazardous emissions and the potential for cost-effectiveness in reducing dependency on fossil fuels.

Laminar burning velocity measurements of ethyl acetate at higher mixture temperatures

Rohit Kumar et al.

Summary: This paper reports on the measuring results of laminar burning velocity (LBV) of ethyl acetate-air mixtures using an externally heated diverging channel (EHDC) method. The measurements were conducted at mixture temperatures up to 600 K, 1 atmosphere pressure, and mixture equivalence ratio (phi) of 0.7-1.5. The measurements in this study show better consistency with the predictions of the Ahfaz kinetic model compared to previous research. The study also found that the highest LBV occurs at 600 K due to the presence of vinoxy radical (CH2CHO) and its radical decomposition.

Laminar Burning Velocity Measurements of Toluene plus Air Mixtures and Ternary Surrogate Formulation at Elevated Temperatures

Upasana Priyadarshani Padhi et al.

Summary: The present work investigates the laminar burning velocity of toluene + air mixtures at elevated temperatures using the EHDC method. The experimental results are consistent with earlier experiments and the predictions from various kinetic models. However, the reduced kinetic model of Narayanaswamy shows significant discrepancies. Sensitivity analysis reveals the inhibitory effect of specific fuel intermediate species on the burning velocity. Additionally, a three-component gasoline surrogate, TRF-85, is proposed to replicate the laminar burning characteristics of commercial gasoline fuels.

Laminar burning velocity and cellular instability of 2-butanone-air flames at elevated pressures

Ya Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the combustion characteristics and stability of 2-butanone were investigated experimentally and theoretically. It was found that the laminar burning velocity and Markstein length of 2-butanone decreased with increasing pressure. The experimental data were well predicted by the applied kinetic models. The onset of cellular instability of 2-butanone flames was influenced by both pressure and equivalence ratio.

Exploration on Thermal Decomposition of Cyclopentanone: A Flow Reactor Pyrolysis and Kinetic Modeling Study

Wei Li et al.

Summary: Pyrolysis of cyclopentanone produces a variety of products, including different isomers and aromatic compounds. The study identified keto-enol tautomers and pathways for critical product formation. Additionally, the study focused on the ratios of CO-to-fuel and ethylene-to-CO, as well as key reactions leading to the formation of aromatic species in cyclopentanone pyrolysis.
