Thymol-loaded polylactic acid electrospun fibrous membranes with synergistic biocidal and anti-bacterial adhesion properties via morphology control

A novel polyurethane-polydimethylsiloxane/polylactic acid electrospinning fiber membrane for oil/water separation

Summary: In order to meet the demand for oil/water separation, a novel polyurethane-polydimethylsiloxane (PU-PDMS) polymer was synthesized under mild conditions and applied on electrospinning polylactic acid (PLLA) to achieve superhydrophobicity for efficient separation. The PU-PDMS/PLLA fiber membrane exhibited excellent mechanical properties, high water contact angle of 155 degrees, and exceptional oil/water separation performance with permeation flux of 2531±69 L m-2 h-1 and separation efficiency of 99.4±1%. This simple and promising method provides a solution for environmental protection with low energy consumption.
