Fabrication of robust and room-temperature curable superhydrophobic composite coatings with breathable and anti-icing performance

Yuanlong Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple and efficient approach to fabricating room-temperature curable superhydrophobic composite coatings was proposed. The prepared coatings exhibited excellent super-hydrophobicity and satisfactory breathability, withstanding harsh mechanical durability damage and extreme working conditions. The facility and universality of the composite coating ensured its potential for large-scale application in industry.

Superhydrophobic coating induced anti-icing and deicing characteristics of an airfoil

Dan Zeng et al.

Summary: Aircraft icing is a major threat to flight safety. The combination of a superhydrophobic coating and a graphene electric heater can enhance anti-icing performance and save energy. Optimizing the 'honeycomb structure' and 'island structure' coatings can further improve anti-icing effectiveness and stability.

A durable superhydrophobic polyphenylene sulfide composite coating with high corrosion resistance and good self-cleaning ability

Hui Zheng et al.

Summary: A durable polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) composite superhydrophobic coating was prepared using a simple spraying method. By adding GO-ZrO2 composite particles to build micro/nanostructures on the surface of the coating and combining it with stearic acid's low surface energy, a GO-ZrO2/PPS composite superhydrophobic coating with high water contact angle and low sliding angle was obtained. The coating showed good stability and maintained a clean surface even after repeated exposure to muddy water. It also exhibited excellent wear and corrosion resistance.

Self-Assembly Dynamics and Stability through Concentration Control at the Solution/HOPG Interface

Kirill Gurdumov et al.

Summary: The growth, dynamics, and stability of a model noncovalent self-assembler, Co(II) octaethylporphyrin, at the solution-HOPG interface were investigated via real-time imaging, scanning tunneling microscopy, and computational methods. The choice of organic solvent was found to play a crucial role in the kinetics and structure of the self-assembled monolayers.

Improved characterization on molecular weight of polyamic acids using gel permeation chromatography coupled with differential refractive index and multi-angle laser light scattering detectors

Mei Hong et al.

Summary: Polyamic acid (PAA) is the precursor of polyimide (PI) and its molecular weight plays a significant role in the preparation and performance of PI. However, accurately characterizing the molecular weight of PAA is challenging due to the complex interactions in the solution system. This study utilized gel permeation chromatography coupled with differential refractive index and multi-angle laser light scattering detectors to measure the molecular weight of (6FDA-DMB) PAA. The combination of LiBr and HAc was found to effectively suppress the complex interactions and facilitate the separation of PAA. The optimized mobile phase, 0.02 M LiBr/0.2 M HAc/DMF, yielded reproducible results for the molecular weight of PAA.

Constructing Scalable Superhydrophobic Membranes for Ultrafast Water-Oil Separation

Xi Quan Cheng et al.

Summary: A simple method of coaxial electrospinning was proposed to manufacture superhydrophobic membranes for ultrafast separation of water-in-oil emulsions. By designing asymmetric composite membranes with selective layers, the mass transfer resistance was reduced, resulting in high separation efficiency and permeance. The manufactured membrane showed strong promise in separation of water-in-oil emulsions, with a large size, continuous production, and potential for further enlargement.

Concentration effects on the self-assembly of tyrosine molecules

Hajar Nili Ahmadabadi et al.

Summary: Molecular self-assembly, a common phenomenon where individual atoms or molecules form an ordered structure, is crucial for understanding biology and diseases. This study investigated tyrosine molecules' self-assembly process through molecular dynamics simulations, revealing different structures formed at varying concentrations, confirmed through inertia moments and hydrogen bond calculations, with insights provided by free energy landscapes.

Ag NPs deposited TiO2 coating material for superhydrophobic, antimicrobial and self-cleaning surface fabrication on fabric

Hakan Gorguluer et al.

Summary: In this study, a superhydrophobic coating was fabricated on fabrics using a simple dipping method, combining rough structure constructed by Ag NPs and low-surface-energy of PDMS. The coated fabric exhibited superhydrophobicity and showed antibacterial activity. The photocatalyst activity of TiO2 was reinforced by the formation of the Schottky barrier at the Ag NPs-TiO2 interface. The coated fabric has great potential for applications in dye removal, oil separation, antibacterial and superhydrophobic coatings.
