Carbon-doped flower-like Bi2WO6 decorated carbon nanosphere nanocomposites with enhanced visible light photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline

Xiaona Jiang et al.

Summary: In this study, unique composite photocatalysts of flower-like bismuth tungstate (Bi2WO6) and carbon nanospheres (CSs) were successfully synthesized using a hydrothermal method. The composite catalyst showed good adsorption and photocatalytic properties due to its high visible light utilization and reasonable band gap (2.53 eV). The optimized ratio of CSs-Bi2WO6 (2%) exhibited a higher degradation rate of tetracycline (TC) compared to pure Bi2WO6, demonstrating the enhanced photocatalytic performance. The catalyst also showed high cyclability and reproducibility, and the photocatalytic reaction pathway was determined through LC-MS analysis.

Creating poly(lactic acid)/carbon nanotubes/carbon black nanocomposites with high electrical conductivity and good mechanical properties by constructing a segregated double network with a low content of hybrid nanofiller

Tairong Kuang et al.

Summary: In this study, conductive biodegradable polymer composites were prepared by melt blending poly(lactic acid) (PLA) with one-dimensional carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The addition of CNTs improved the electrical conductivity of the polymer matrix, but it also decreased its mechanical properties. However, when carbon black (CB) was mechanically mixed with PLA/CNTs, a segregated double filler network structure was formed, resulting in PLA nanocomposites with high electrical conductivity and good mechanical properties at low filler content.

MOF-derived Ni-Co bimetal/porous carbon composites as electromagnetic wave absorber

Zirui Jia et al.

Summary: Ni-Co/PC composite is prepared by introducing metal Co element with Ni-MOF/PC as precursor. Then a series of Ni-Co bimetal/PC composites are prepared by polyaniline coating, oxidation reaction, and vulcanization reaction. It is found that vulcanization reaction was the best path for the electromagnetic wave absorption performance of the product. The minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of NiCo2S4/PC composite reaches - 67.81 dB at the sample thickness of 2.6 mm, and the maximum effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) reaches 6.16 GHz when the sample thickness is 2.1 mm. NiCo2S4/PC composite is an ideal electromagnetic wave absorber due to its excellent electrical conductivity, rich surface, and high attenuation capability.

Synthesis of graphitic carbon nitride/zinc oxide (g-C3N4/ZnO) hybrid nanostructures and investigation of the effect of ZnO on the photodegradation activity of g-C3N4 against the brilliant cresyl blue (BCB) dye under visible light irradiation

Parmeshwar Lal Meena et al.

Summary: g-C3N4/ZnO hybrid nanostructures were synthesized by mixing urea and zinc acetate as precursors via grinding and then microwave-assisted dehydration followed by a low-temperature calcination process. The structural and textural properties of the prepared samples were investigated, and the effect of ZnO on the photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4 was studied. The g-C3N4/ZnO (20%) composite exhibited the greatest degradation efficiency in comparison to other fabricated g-C3N4/ZnO hybrid nanostructures. The present work provides an efficient and facile synthetic approach for the construction of g-C3N4/ZnO hybrid nanostructures which can be employed effectively for the photocatalytic degradation of organic water pollutants.
