Surgery Decreases Nonunion, Myelopathy, and Mortality for Patients With Traumatic Odontoid Fractures: A Propensity Score Matched Analysis

Summary: This study analyzed the effect of surgical fixation on myelopathy, fracture nonunion, and mortality in traumatic odontoid fractures. The results showed that surgical stabilization can improve myelopathy scores and reduce fracture nonunion, 30-day mortality, and 1-year mortality.

Risk Factors for Fracture Nonunion and Transverse Atlantal Ligament Injury After Isolated Atlas Fractures: A Case Series of 97 Patients

Summary: This study aimed to identify risk factors for atlas fracture nonunion, with and without transverse atlantal ligament (TAL) injury. The results showed that lateral mass displacement (LMD) > 7 mm was not sensitive for TAL injury. Some atlas fractures with TAL injury can be managed with a cervical collar. Age was found to independently predict nonunion.

A Nationwide Analysis of Geriatric Odontoid Fracture Incidence, Complications, Mortality, and Cost
