Serum Tenascin-C and Alarin Levels Are Associated with Cardiovascular Diseases in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Mingming Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the levels of TNC and alarin in CVD patients were significantly higher than those in non-CVD patients. Additionally, TNC levels were positively correlated with age, waist circumference, and waist-hip ratio, while alarin levels were positively correlated with BMI, waist circumference, and hip circumference. These two biomarkers were identified as independent determinants for CVD in T2DM patients and their increases were associated with CVD severity. Therefore, TNC and alarin may serve as potential diagnostic and prognostic indicators for CVD in diabetics.

Relation between Tissue Factor Pathway Inhibitor Activity and Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Diseases in a Large Population Sample

Pauline C. S. van Paridon et al.

Summary: The study found significant associations between smoking, diabetes, obesity, and history of coronary artery disease with total TFPI activity levels. After adjusting for lipoprotein levels, the associations with obesity and CAD were lost. Elevated TFPI activity levels were also positively associated with low-density lipoprotein and increased mortality risk.
