Summary: This study reports the dielectric sensitivity of fluorine and tin codoped indium oxide nanocubes and its dependence on their sharp faceting which gives rise to multiple plasmonic modes and on their tin-dopant concentration. It is found that the plasmon mode associated with the nanocube corners is the most sensitive and that raising dopant concentration increases dielectric sensitivity.

Summary: Despite its importance in sensing and imaging applications, the short-wave infrared (SWIR) has been underexplored in metasurface-based nanophotonics due to the lack of material systems. In this study, an all-dielectric silicon-integrated metasurface is demonstrated to enable polarization-induced Fano resonance control at SWIR frequencies. By tuning the light polarization, the metasurface reflectance can be efficiently engineered, offering additional degrees of freedom for directional scattering and flow of light. This tunability is harnessed in nanosensors for efficient detection of refractive index changes.

Summary: The effect of localized lossy defects on high-index dielectric nanospheres is investigated using Mie scattering and multipole expansion theories. The scattering intensity can be controlled by tailoring the defect distribution, and the anapole mode remains unaffected by the introduction of loss in the strong field regions. These findings offer new possibilities for designing nanophotonic devices with multi-wavelength scattering regulation.

Summary: In this work, a metasurface with disk-ring Si nanostructures on a SiO2 substrate is proposed and simulated. The Si disk-ring structure can excite and manipulate anapole state, and periodic array supports lattice resonance which improves the near-field enhancement in the gap region. The maximum E-field enhancement is 346 times, and a transmission dip with ultra-narrow bandwidth of 0.34 nm and Q-factor of 4460 is shown. When the central disk has an offset, the near-field enhancement can be affected, reaching up to 468 times in the case of y-direction offset. The designed metasurface also exhibits a sensing performance of 387 nm/RIU.

Summary: A microstructured optical fibers (MOFs) biochemical sensor based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is proposed for simultaneous detection of analytes with different states in internal and external environments. The sensor utilizes a micro-polished dual-open-loop structure with anti-corrosive gold as the sensing layer to enhance the phase matching between fundamental mode and plasmonic mode for SPR effect. Numerical simulations reveal the better sensing properties of the even mode for ypolarized state. The sensor demonstrates high wavelength sensitivity and amplitude sensitivity in the operable infrared region, with the capability of detecting a wide range of gas and liquid analytes.

Summary: Asymmetric metasurfaces supporting quasi-bound states in the continuum (BICs) have high Q-factors and strong light-matter interaction properties, making them attractive for label-free biosensing applications. This study compared several meta-atom geometries to determine the most practical choice for biosensing. The tetramer meta-atom design was found to have higher surface sensitivity and a larger size-to-wavelength ratio, while a greater depth enhanced surface sensitivity. Experimental demonstration of two asymmetric tetramer metasurfaces showed sharp high Q-factor resonances and polarization-insensitive features, with the thicker metasurface exhibiting higher surface sensitivity. These findings open new possibilities for high-performance biosensing and chemical-sensing applications.

Summary: The anapole mode is a nonradiative resonance that utilizes two symmetric circulating currents in all-dielectric nanoresonators to achieve double perfect electric conductor mirror effects. By employing two metal components to create fictitious images of the middle dielectric, the system can excite the doubly mirror-induced anapole mode. This work explores electric and magnetic anapole modes in metal-dielectric hybrid nanoresonators, showcasing larger electric-field enhancement factors and narrower line widths compared to conventional modes.
