A new insight into the promoting effects of transition metal phosphides in methanol electrooxidation

Junjie Ding et al.

Summary: The construction of highly active catalysts for methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) is crucial for direct methanol fuel cells. This study focuses on the synthesis of Co2P co-catalysts (Pt-P/Co2P@NPC) and Pt-Co-P composite catalysts (Pt-Co-P/NPC) and investigates their electrocatalytic performance for MOR. The results show that Pt-Co-P/NPC exhibits significantly higher MOR activity compared to Pt-P/Co2P@NPC, indicating that the promoting effect primarily comes from the resultant Pt-Co-P composite.

Iridium-incorporated Co3O4 with lattice expansion for energy-efficient green hydrogen production coupled with glycerol valorization

You Xu et al.

Summary: The iridium-incorporated Co3O4 (Ir-Co3O4) catalyst is synthesized from binary CoIr-based metal-organic framework precursors via controlled calcination treatment. The in situ incorporation of Ir cations leads to lattice expansion of Co3O4 and regulation of its electronic structure, which improves the electrocatalytic performance. With a lattice expansion-induced strain effect, the Ir-Co3O4 catalyst exhibits superior performance for both glycerol-to-formate conversion and the hydrogen evolution reaction.

Rational design ternary platinum based electrocatalysts for effective methanol oxidation reaction

Summary: This study develops a method to synthesize two-dimensional ternary PtBiM nanoplates, which exhibit excellent catalytic activity and durability in the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR). Among them, Pt3Bi3Zn nanoplates show higher activity and stability compared with PtBi nanoplates, PtRu/C catalyst, and Pt/C catalyst. This is attributed to the modulated electronic structure of Pt in PtBi nanoplates by the addition of Zn, leading to weakened interaction with adsorbed species like CO. In addition, the absorbed OH on the surface of Zn accelerates the removal of CO on adjacent Pt atoms, resulting in enhanced activity and anti-poisoning performance of the Pt3Bi3Zn catalyst.
