Absence of Pilot Monitoring Affects Scanning Behavior of Pilot Flying: Implications for the Design of Single-Pilot Cockpits

Summary: This study examines the impact of the absence of the pilot monitoring (PM) on the pilot flying's (PF) scanning behavior, with the aim of informing the design of single-pilot cockpits for commercial aviation. The findings suggest that the presence of the PM supports the pilot in achieving efficient scanning behavior. Therefore, information should be presented differently in commercial single-pilot operations to compensate for the absence of the PM.

Estimating the required number of Harbour Pilots to support airline operations of a single pilot commercial aircraft at a UK regional airport

Summary: Single pilot passenger aircraft concepts are being developed, and one approach is to use Harbour Pilots for support during departures and arrivals. This study determines the optimal number of Harbour Pilots required for a UK low-cost operator by simulating their operations at a regional airport, and suggests the need for six Harbour Pilots per shift.

DFCluster: An efficient algorithm to mine maximal differential biclusters for single pilot operations task synthesis safety analysis

Summary: This paper proposes an efficient differential bicluster mining algorithm to discover safety issues caused by task synthesis. Experimental results show that the algorithm is more efficient than existing algorithms. Based on the mining results, the SPO air-ground collaborative system architecture is modified, which improves the safety of the SPO system.
