Highly active Fe36Co44 bimetallic nanoclusters catalysts for hydrolysis of ammonia borane: The first-principles study

Jinrong Huo et al.

Summary: In this paper, Fe36Co44 nanocluster structure is utilized for catalyzing the hydrolysis reaction of ammonia borane to produce H2. The construction of the cluster structure is completed, and the electronic properties of the cluster are calculated. By comparing the adsorption process of Ammonia Borane (AB) in active sites of the cluster, the qualitative relationship between Effective Coordination Number (ECN) and the catalytic activation of AB is clarified, and the optimal catalytic active site is obtained. Multiple reaction paths of the hydrolysis reaction of AB are studied from different perspectives, resulting in 5 different reaction paths and energy profiles. Among them, path 5 exhibits the minimum rate-determining step (RDS) barrier and exothermic reaction. This study provides important guidance for understanding the mechanism of AB hydrolysis reaction.

Non-free Fe dominated PMS activation for enhancing electro-Fenton efficiency in neutral wastewater

Ying Wang et al.

Summary: The high performance of non-free Fe in the electro-Fenton system was observed using rod-shaped erdite for PMS activation in an electric field. Erdite, synthesized from waste waterwork sludge, had a one-dimensional structure of (FeS2)nn- group and could release Fe/S-bearing colloid in neutral water. In the electric field, the erdite hydrolysis was inhibited but continued by adding PMS, generating free radicals of .OH and SO4-. The presence of erdite/PMS in the electric field significantly enhanced the removal efficiency of p-nitrophenol.

Characterizing molecular transformation of dissolved organic matter during high-solid anaerobic digestion of dewatered sludge using ESI FT-ICR MS

Xiaowei Li et al.

Summary: The effects of anaerobic digestion on the molecular characteristics of dissolved organic matter in dewatered sludge were studied using advanced ESI FT-ICR MS technology. As anaerobic digestion progressed, the molecular amounts in DOM samples increased while the carbon atom number and double bond equivalent decreased. The main organic substances in the sludge were CHON and CHONS groups, with relative proportions of 29.64% and 32.56%, respectively. The resistant organic matter consisted mainly of proteins in the CHO groups and proteins/lignin in the CHON groups. The results provide a theoretical basis for optimizing the sludge AD process.

Label-free electrochemical aptasensor based on gold nanoparticles/titanium carbide MXene for lead detection with its reduction peak as index signal

Zhouxiang Zhang et al.

Summary: A label-free electrochemical aptamer sensor based on AuNPs/Ti3C2-MXene was developed for the rapid detection of Pb2+ as a dangerous water pollutant. The Ti3C2-MXene nanosheets provided an excellent supporting base for uniform distribution of AuNPs, allowing for the immobilization of Pb2+ aptamer. The sensing interface was constructed stepwise and the Pb2+ aptamer on the electrode surface showed a conformational change, enabling the successful capture of Pb2+ and direct detection through square wave voltammetry.

Application of magnetic nanoparticles modified with L-cysteine for pre-concentration and voltammetric detection of copper(II)

Maryam Fayazi et al.

Summary: In this study, magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) combined with a voltammetric method was used to determine Cu(II) in aqueous mediums. A magnetic carbon paste electrode (MCPE) was utilized for the electrochemical detection of Cu(II) after pre-concentration using L-cysteine functionalized core-shell Fe3O4@Au nanoparticles. The proposed assay allowed for the extraction and determination of copper ions in a single electrochemical cell, with optimal conditions leading to linear response currents within the concentration range of 2.0 to 400.0 nmol L-1 Cu(II). The method demonstrated a low limit of detection and good reproducibility, with successful application for Cu(II) analysis in different water samples.
