Supplementation of wheat flour products with wheat bran dietary fiber: Purpose, mechanisms, and challenges

Sen Ma et al.

Summary: This review discusses the effects of supplementing flour products with wheat bran dietary fiber (WBDF) on the quality of flour products. WBDF-enriched flour has a longer shelf life than whole wheat flour and can change the strength of gluten network and protein properties of the dough. Understanding the effects of WBDF on gluten protein can guide the development and production of improved flour products.

Biochar washing to improve the fuel quality of agro-industrial waste biomass

Sangeeta Mukhopadhyay et al.

Summary: Low energy density and low ash melting temperatures of agro-industrial waste biomass limit their sustainable use in combustion utilities. Torrefaction and aqua-washing were employed to enhance the combustion performance of tobacco stalk, sugarcane bagasse, and poultry litter biomass. Char washing improved the combustion reactivity and reduced ash content, slagging, and fouling tendencies. Water washing of biochar was highly beneficial for tobacco stalk and poultry litter. Unwashed sugarcane bagasse biochar can be directly used without washing. Water washing of biochar also resulted in a valuable potassium-rich fertilizer material.

Bahram Fathi et al.

Summary: The study examines the energy, environmental, and economic (E3) efficiency in fossil fuel exporting countries during 2015-2017. The DEA approach shows different efficiency performances in each country, while the Nash bargaining game-DEA model ranks China, Oman, and others as top performers and Gabon, Saudi Arabia, and others as low performers. The second model is considered more suitable for ranking due to its unique solution.
