Synthesis and Applications of Chiral Bicyclic Bisborane Catalysts

Zhao-Ying Yang et al.

Summary: The development of chiral borane Lewis acid catalysts has allowed for transition-metal-free catalyzed asymmetric organic reactions. In this study, we have summarized our work on the preparation of two classes of novel chiral bicyclic bisborane Lewis acid catalysts derived from C-2-symmetric [3.3.0] dienes and [4.4] dienes. These catalysts not only catalyze asymmetric hydrogenation reactions through frustrated Lewis pairs with Lewis bases, but also activate Lewis basic functional groups in traditional Lewis acid catalyzed asymmetric reactions.

Energy-Transfer-Enabled Dearomative Cycloaddition Reactions of Indoles/Pyrroles via Excited-State Aromatics

Min Zhu et al.

Summary: Exploring the chemical space and developing synthetic methods for molecules with unprecedented structural motifs in organic chemistry are important goals. Dearomatization of arenes, as a unique strategy, provides retrosynthetic disconnections for various molecules with increased saturation and stereoisomerism. However, inherent thermodynamic challenges make further expansion of dearomatization reactions a major problem. Visible-light-induced dearomative cycloaddition reactions have shown potential in synthesizing molecules that are difficult to access by other methods. Regulating the reactivities of transient intermediates in these reactions remains a crucial issue.
