Progress in (Thio)urea- and Squaramide-Based Bronsted Base Catalysts with Multiple H-Bond Donors

Silvia Vera et al.

Summary: Thiourea- and squaramide-based bifunctional base catalysts have become a powerful tool for enantioselective transformations in asymmetric catalysis. Recent developments have focused on incorporating additional H-bond donor sites into the catalyst structure, resulting in more active and selective catalysts. This review presents the pioneering ideas and recent contributions to the field, organized according to the nature of the additional H-bond donor functionality, and discusses the advantages, limitations, and prospects of these new multifunctional catalysts.

A Critical Review on Application of Extraction Methods Prior to Spectrometric Determination of Trace-Metals in Oily Matrices

Njabulo S. Mdluli et al.

Summary: The presence of heavy metals in oily matrices can have negative effects on oil quality and the environment. Therefore, evaluating metal extraction methods is crucial for spectrometric determination. Analysis of studies from 2005 to 2020 found that extraction induced by emulsion breaking is the most preferred method.

Absolute Stereochemical Determination of Organic Molecules through Induction of Helicity in Host-Guest Complexes

Hadi Gholami et al.

Summary: Stereochemistry is a fundamental molecular property that significantly influences the structure, function, and activity of organic molecules, particularly in biological systems. Molecular stereochemistry plays a crucial role in various disciplines of chemistry and related fields, especially in achieving stereoselective syntheses. Developing molecular receptors for sensing molecular asymmetry is an effective method for assigning the absolute configuration of chiral molecules.

Controlling Structural and Energetic Disorder in High-Mobility Polymer Semiconductors via Doping with Nitroaromatics

Pegah Ghamari et al.

Summary: Molecular doping with nitrofluorene acceptors has been shown to significantly enhance the performance of polymer OFETs; doping resulted in a nearly 5-fold enhancement in the saturation field-effect mobility; NF dopants were found to mitigate charge carrier traps, lower contact resistance, and maximize structural order of the polymer films.

Diastereoselective Amplification of a Mechanically Chiral [2]Catenane

Kenji Caprice et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the amplification of a mechanically chiral (P)-catenane by binding to (R)-1,1'-binaphthyl 2,2'-disulfonate, with a diastereomeric excess of 85%. The chirality of the [2]catenane was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction and NMR/CD spectroscopies, establishing a basis for the development of new synthetic approaches to enantioenriched mechanically chiral [2]catenanes.
