Homogenous Iron-Catalysed hydrogenation of polar substrates with precise chemoselectivity

Ya-Nan Duan et al.

Summary: In this paper, a iron tetraphosphine complex was found to be a highly efficient catalyst for selective hydrogenation of aldehydes, conjugated ketones and nitroarenes in the presence of other easily reduced functional groups. The catalyst showed high catalytic efficiency, chemoselectivity and robustness in the preparation of important drug intermediates. A diamagnetic trans-iron dihydride complex formed during the reaction was identified as the active catalytic species. The application of this method in the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries is anticipated.

Effectiveness and Mechanism of the Ene(amido) Group in Activating Iron for the Catalytic Asymmetric Transfer Hydrogenation of Ketones

Qingquan Xue et al.

Summary: The pi-interacting ligands of diphosphino amidoene (amido) type were found to be effective in activating iron mimicking the properties of precious metals in catalytic asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones. Through the synthesis of various iron precatalyst complexes and comparison experiments, the effectiveness of the ene (amido) group was demonstrated.

Chiral Tridentate Ligands in Transition Metal-Catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrogenation

Heng Wang et al.

Summary: Asymmetric hydrogenation of double bonds is an effective method for preparing chiral molecules, with noble metals and bidentate ligands showing remarkable reactivity. The development of chiral tridentate ligands has become increasingly important, enabling both reactivities and stereoselectivities in asymmetric hydrogenation. While noble metal catalysts with chiral tridentate ligands have made significant achievements, there is still a high demand for designing chiral tridentate ligands for earth abundant metal catalysts.

Asymmetric hydrogenation catalyzed by first-row transition metal complexes

Jialin Wen et al.

Summary: This review discusses the application of first-row transition metals in asymmetric hydrogenation and transfer hydrogenation, highlighting the catalytic behavior of 3d metals and their differences from 4d and 5d metals. Despite challenges in replacing noble metals, the involvement of a single-electron process has been a notable feature of first-row metals.
