Ionic conductivity of Li3TaO4 depending on polymorphism and non-stoichiometric defects

Chaeeun Kim et al.

Summary: The ionic conductivity of complex rock-salt Li3TaO4 was studied by modifying the low-temperature and high-temperature polymorphs with Li/Ta non-stoichiometry. The results showed that the disordered low-temperature phase had higher ionic conductivity than the ordered high-temperature phase, and the Li/Ta non-stoichiometry contributed to an increase in the ionic conductivity of Li3TaO4.

Strategies for fitting accurate machine-learned inter-atomic potentials for solid electrolytes

Juefan Wang et al.

Summary: Ion transport in materials plays an important role, but the variability in reported experimental results introduces challenges for accurate prediction. Machine-learned potentials have the potential to overcome these challenges, but their capabilities need to be critically assessed. This study evaluates the quality of a machine-learning potential based on the moment tensor potential formulation for ion transport in materials, highlighting the importance of high-quality training sets and considering intrinsic defects in solid electrolytes. The limitations posed by short-time and high-temperature simulations for predicting room-temperature properties are also demonstrated.

Summary: In this study, Nb-coated/substituted LiNi0.9Co0.05Mn0.05O2 (NMC 9055) materials were synthesized, and the addition of niobium improved the capacity retention and charge/discharge voltage profiles. The added niobium was located in the boundaries between the primary particles, transforming interparticles/intraparticles cracking into tiny intraparticles cracking, thus enhancing the electrochemical performance of NMC 9055.

Synthesis, thermal analysis, and band gap of ordered and disordered complex rock salt Li3TaO4

Chaeeun Kim et al.

Summary: The temperature ranges for phase stability were studied for the disordered and ordered polymorphs of complex rock salt Li3TaO4. The disordered Li3TaO4 can be obtained by heating a mixture of Li2CO3 and Ta2O5, but it transforms irreversibly to the ordered and monoclinic ll-Li(3)TaO(4 ) at high temperatures. The thermal stability of ll-Li3TaO4 is heavily dependent on the sealing of the container.

What is the Role of Nb in Nickel-Rich Layered Oxide Cathodes for Lithium-Ion Batteries?

Fengxia Xin et al.

Summary: Coating and substitution are effective methods to address the capacity loss and stability challenges of nickel-rich layered metal oxide materials in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. This study demonstrates that Li-free Nb oxide treatment can reduce surface impurities, improve rate performance, and stabilize the structure. Nb substitution leads to better long cycling stability with a high capacity retention after 250 cycles.
