In this work, a synthesis method for 3.5 monolayerCdTe nanoplatelets with controlled lateral dimensions was developed. The chemical reactivity of the tellurium precursor was found to play a crucial role in achieving this. The effects of additives, such as oleic acid, acetic acid, and water, on the nanoplatelet lateral dimensions and optical properties were investigated. An optimal combination of additives was obtained, resulting in a minimal nanoplatelet area. After exposure to cadmium propionate, nanoplatelets with a fluorescence quantum efficiency of up to 12% were obtained.
In this work, we developed a synthesis for 3.5 monolayerCdTe nanoplateletswith controlled lateral dimensions. We show that the chemical reactivityof the tellurium precursor plays an important role in achieving this.In addition, we report on the effects of additives, such as oleicacid, acetic acid, and water, on the final nanoplatelet lateral dimensionsand optical properties. Oleic acid and acetic acid affect the widthof the CdTe nanoplatelets, while water mainly affects the photoluminescencequantum efficiency of the nanoplatelets. We obtained an optimal combinationof the additives that reduces the nanoplatelet area to a minimum. Finally, after exposing the samples to cadmium propionate, we obtained3.5 monolayer CdTe nanoplatelets with a fluorescence quantum efficiencyof up to 12%.
